🚕🤖 Uber has launched the UK’s first self-driving minicab service, with 15 autonomous vehicles initially licensed to operate in London. There is still a human safety driver behind the wheel. For now, journeys will cost the same as equivalent Uber rides, with the option appearing in the app when... show more

✅ I think I’ll continue using the services of black cabs and busses. It’s more of a London thing. ✅ I’d rather pay a local Londoner who very likely supports their family than to a foreign monster company who likely pays little to zero tax and not to mention their desire to hire the least amount of people.

No one cares. Tesla launch Cybercab today. That’s the real news. GG @Uber. Game over

Can you explain how it is self driving when it has a driver…

You can't hail an Uber or any other minicab.

Yet another reason why I will never use @Uber in London.

It’s pathetic. Americans have access to self driving Tesla Robotaxis, purpose designed. The cars in London are a bodge by Uber. The human is unnecessary. Europe should try harder, to keep up with current technology . Look at the cost here between and Uber and a Tesla Robotaxi.

BBC care about women safety!!.ask the question, are the safety drivers tfl approved or DBs checked?..I won't allow my daughter's near them without answers

Here is the future ,.. NOW ! No steering wheel, no pedals

Good. Now send all the migrants back.

Nothing like Tesla thou come on

We'll never go driverless as we were set up by drivers, for Londoners to provide a service that is fair for both! If you're looking for alternative voices on the subject from within the industry, we'd love to come on and talk about it!

Black cabs job is gone

What’s the point?

Love this take

You fallen for it too Tom 🤷

We don't want these. Uber has just axed thousands of jobs and London already has too many cars on narrow streets.

They’ll be the slowest things on the road. Drivers will use dangerous manoeuvres to get around them, increasing cumulative risk for all road users, especially cyclists. A terrible idea.

Customers will still abuse the safety drivers. Be drunk, throw up and leave personal items behind blaming the driver and then uber tells drivers to go to customers houses to give back the lost property

Wonder how much greedy @Uber @UberUK has paid you to push this crap... You don't promote other firms or black cabs, all this BlackRock backed corp doesn't care about jobs etc...

So let me get this straight. Same price as a normal Uber. Human driver still behind the wheel. 15 vehicles in all of London. The entire selling point of autonomous vehicles is: Remove the driver the biggest cost and make rides cheaper. Increase availability no driver shortage, no shift limits. Improve safety no tired drivers, no distractions. This achieves NONE of those. Same price the cost saving from autonomy isn't passed to the passenger. So who benefits? Uber's margin. Human still driving so it's not autonomous. It's a normal taxi with cameras on the roof and an AI watching the driver. That's a dashcam with a marketing budget. 15 vehicles in a city of 9 million people. That's one car per 600,000 residents. You're more likely to see a horse and cart. This isn't a self-driving service. It's a data collection exercise. Those 15 cars are mapping London's streets, recording driving patterns, and training Wayve's AI using paying passengers as the training environment. You're not riding in a robotaxi. You're paying full price to be a test subject. Meanwhile: a wheelchair user in rural Kent still can't get to the GP. A blind person in Yalding still pays £30 for a taxi. But London gets 15 dashcams in Ubers at full price. transport charter. Technology that reduces cost, increases access, and serves the people who need it. Not 15 cars in London charging full fare with a human driver still at the wheel.

Perfect for women. at least other drivers can be safe from false accusations because they don’t get their way or doesn’t allow drivers do their jobs properly. Dear drivers do not retaliate record everything and take them to court you’ll get a nice payout

Meanwhile the real news is Tesla cybercabs are available in Austin texas #tesla #cybercab @elonmusk

How long before a crash with fatalities? Just like in the films that have predicted that
