Glad we live in Kenya, where the constitution is a public document accessible to all citizens , guaranteeing our right to peacefully express dissatisfaction, as long as it doesn't threaten national security. I maintain that Kenya’s next General Election must be held in August 2026, not 2027. Article 136(2)(a) of the Constitution is explicit: a presidential election shall be held on the second Tuesday in August in every fifth year. The Constitution does not say after five years. It says in the fifth year. A term that runs beyond August 2026 spills into a sixth year, which the Constitution does not permit. Constitutional timelines are not elastic, and political convenience cannot override clear constitutional text. If we respect the supremacy of the Constitution, then elections must be held in August 2026.

The office of The ODM Party’s Secretary General is not a platform for personal opinion. It is an institutional role that demands discipline and loyalty to the party constitution. Edwin Sifuna has failed in this duty. If he wishes to pursue a different political path, that is his democratic right. But as long as he remains ODM’s Secretary General, he must respect the Party Leader and communicate the party’s official position, not his own. The Secretary General does not make policy. He articulates it. Personal views masquerading as party position are unacceptable. He was handpicked by the party, and the party can handpick another. ODM is bigger than any individual.
