He couldn’t stop the spread no huddle up tempo offense so proposed the Defensive Substitution Rule (2014) He stated up tempo offenses make the game unsafe… The real reasoning was that Coach Saban couldn’t beat them! After Saban complained that hurry-up offenses gave offenses an unfair advantage, the SEC and NCAA discussed allowing defenses time to substitute when offenses substituted.
