The 10x programmer/designer is created largely as a function of motivation. The will to see your creation exist. An impatience with turning nothing into something.

We talk about this question, about AI, about employee equity, and deciding which problems to tackle first on the latest episode of the REWORK podcast:

Love the strive to 10x That's why the promise of SupeRails is that you'll be 10x faster than me at solving problems/understanding concepts

This is not motivation. What you are talking about, in my humble opinion, is an urge, a super strong drive and it doesn't let you stop. Motivation is not even close. This drive is as strong as the feel to go to the bathroom for a biobreak. Doesn't matter what your motivation is, when you have to go you have to go.

This is something that is mostly found in entrepreneurs these days, and very little in the "professional" developer. We might be talking about a person who is involved in an open-source project, or creating a company. Most of the people that work as software developers for a paycheck do not exhibit this drive these days. This is a far cry from the days when software development was "new", and most of us really loved what we were doing. We simply enjoyed the magic of creating something that most people had no idea was possible. I started out in the very early days of personal computers when I was 12. I was awesome. 🙂

Totally feel that drive. Turning ideas into reality takes hustle, passion, and a bit of impatience. What's your latest creation?

authenticity like this cant be engineered

It’s also the motivation to break the status quo

The will to see your creation exist. ↓ An impatience with turning nothing into something. ↓ (emergence of) a 10x programmer/designer

No, one has to have abilities. Without abilities no motivation is going to help.

No argument with that. But the world is also full of talent being squandered without motivation.
