The anime details in Akira (1988)

What a master piece

vintage

Some insight into the process and mountain of work that went into the film.

This will remain the gold standard for all time

every frame hums with hand drawn sweat neon panic and prophecy

The drawing is incredibly cool... even now it looks magical... it's hard to believe that it's watercolor and all done by hand.

It's crazy to think the quality of this anime hasn't been surpassed yet after almost 40 years...

Literally what made me fall in love with cyberpunk aesthetic all those years ago

This was the pinnacle of animation for me and my friends during high school.

Call me an old man yelling at clouds… but anime just doesnt look as good now as it used to The hand drawn just feels more alive Nowadays things all look the same and have less detail cause it’s cheaper Or things are impressionistic Old school anime was ALIVE

Really brilliant but Masaru look too much like #Trump And in these bad times that is quite a pity.

The interior of the left building in the first shot are actually on their own layer...you can see them parallaxing subtly...I could barely make it out back in the day on vhs...

And the music

@CudasCorner That was such a fun dat the local video store in the early 90s

Pretty typical of the period actually. Due to US importers grey saling from Japan att, wholesale. Its one of the few films that got a localized release. Not so in other parts of the world. Over a dozen films 1987 - 90 each improving on animation quality & char design.

Stunning.

Un chef d’œuvre 😌

Just imagine the culture of the mind back-then to create this. A spark that is sadly missing in our world today I believe.

Why don’t people want this back?

Akira was so ahead of it's time 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Have you seen Akira (movie) ? @Snow_Blacck

I remember when the first time I saw this had the same effect as Pink Floyds the Wall movie . all you can think was WOW

Akira will always have a special place in my heart.

This is what started me on my journey in anime.

Watching This Movie in 4K is Truly Something Else❤️💖💕🤩😍💓!!

The GOAT

It's the portrayal of a futuristic city before the future itself. The drawings may look old but it's well balanced enough to give a satisfying sci-fi kind of vibe

Its insane to think what japanese animators were capable of in the 80s that most western ones havent even achieved this level today with all their updated gear

just introduced my 16-year-old to this the other day and he was flabbergasted by how peak and fire this animation is
