I was a certified Apple service technician, and I don't know about the dropping, but you did have to reseat the boards from time to time. Apple was not the only offender; I remember doing the same with Qume printers and others.

Apple III is case study for the ages. Beyond defects and hardware limits, it was shipped without a word processor available. Tim Gill (yes, that same Quark guy) came to everyone's rescue with a Word Processor but it was too late. Too expensive & gave middle finger to Apple II. 🤪
