The Avalon Village is the prototype for distressed & neglected communities that aim to become eco-friendly, resilient, & self-sufficient. Founded in 2008 by "Mama Shu" the village's mission is to create a safe, nurturing, & healing space within the city of Highland Park, MI.

That woman is awesome! She did that largely by herself with volunteers. She is passionate and courageous. Avalon will stand for 100 years. #HighlandPark

When I first heard her story she really changed my perceptions. Like we really can create our own world to the benefit of all in our communities. So much of our reality is fighting for scrapes, she’s really building beyond what we can see.
