Why does Airbus A380 only use its two inner engines for reverse thrust during landing? This is to reduce weight and avoid foreign object debris. The outer engines hang over grass or dirt—activating reversers there could blow debris forward and back into the engines. Shocking footage from May 2019, shows Aeroflot Flight 1492 burst into flames upon crash landing. The aircraft experienced an electrical failure and returned to Sheremetyevo Airport for an emergency landing. It bounced on touchdown and landed hard, causing the landing gear to collapse, fuel to spill from the wings, and a fire to break out. The fire engulfed the rear of the aircraft, killing 41 of the 78 occupants.

A little excitement for today with this video of a KC-135 landing with the boom in trail. The hoist cable is broken and whipping around something fierce, so they didn't stow the boom for landing to avoid damage to the tail of the aircraft. The boom closes the sighting window to cut off hydrualics to the boom flight controls. He didn't have any control at that point anyways. Last thing to mention: The Dash One has a statement in it about landing with the boom in trail warning not to slam on the brakes because the boom will start traveling to one side and can cause additional damage.

A little excitement for today with this video of a KC-135 landing with the boom in trail. The hoist cable is broken and whipping around something fierce, so they didn't stow the boom for landing to avoid damage to the tail of the aircraft. The boom closes the sighting window to cut off hydrualics to the boom flight controls. He didn't have any control at that point anyways. Last thing to mention: The Dash One has a statement in it about landing with the boom in trail warning not to slam on the brakes because the boom will start traveling to one side and can cause additional damage.

In its landing config, the L-1011 featured a system known as Direct Lift Control (DLC), which was quite innovative. With the aircraft fully configured for landing, the spoilers would deploy to a baseline angle of 7°. Pushing the control yoke forward to command a steeper descent would raise the spoilers up to 14° without altering the aircraft's pitch attitude. Pulling back on the yoke would retract the spoilers toward their fully stowed position (0°), boosting lift and reducing the sink rate. Thanks to the DLC, the L-1011 made super stable approaches with rock-solid pitch attitude and rewarded with "greaser" landings more often. Did you know: A similar tech, called Auto-drag, exists in the Boeing 787. This function uses the ailerons and two outboard spoilers to automatically spoil lift/add drag when the airplane is above the glideslope. Autodrag works in conjunction with the autothrottle to automatically capture the vertical path without increasing or losing airspeed.

You don’t even want to imagine it occurring during takeoff or landing. A few things could be at play here: The main landing gear shock strut relies on hydraulic fluid and compressed dry air (or nitrogen) to absorb and control loads. The oil charging valve is located near the wheels, while the gas valve sits higher up. A failure in either system could compromise strut integrity. There’s also the Proximity Switch Electronics Unit (PSEU), which monitors the air/ground system and landing gear compression sensors. During the crash landing, a part of the aircraft hit a light pole before the aircraft crashed onto the ground. Flight DK1614 from Stockholm was arriving at the Greek airport when it encountered windshear on final approach. The incident on 15th September was caught on video and posted to social media a few days ago.
