“Probable Cause: The pilot's operation of the airplane while intoxicated, which resulted in a loss of airplane control on landing” (and at the wrong airport) July 18 2019: a private Citation II crashes in Nevada (US), no casualties. Jet left the runway on landing at Mesquite, lost its undercarriage, and was destroyed in a fire. The aircraft was on a ferry flight, and it was not intended to land at Mesquite: the pilot was later arrested on suspicion of flying while drunk (later confirmed) (Below is an exact quote of the accident report: I can imagine that when this came out, the pilot was busy printing CVs) “After authorities arrived on site, the pilot was arrested for operating an aircraft under the influence of alcohol. The pilot was found to have a blood alcohol level of .288, which exceeded the FAA's allowable limit of .040. Why does Airbus A380 only use its two inner engines for reverse thrust during landing? This is to reduce weight and avoid foreign object debris. The outer engines hang over grass or dirt—activating reversers there could blow debris forward and back into the engines. SO WE FLY INSIDE PRESSURE VESSELS... This is the rear pressure bulkhead of an aircraft — essentially the end of the pressurised section of the fuselage. The bulkhead consists of a dome and a ring that form its distinctive round shape to reduce areas of stress concentration (evenly distribute load). This video was captured from the rear galley. On the other side of the bulkhead is the unpressurised tail cone. That's the rear structure keeping the cabin pressurised at altitude.

This is an Erickson Aero Tanker MD-87 flying with the landing gear down while fighting a wildfire. It may look unusual, but there is a reason for it. The extended landing gear creates significant drag, meaning the pilots need to maintain a higher power setting. That is important because the MD-87's engines can have a relatively long spool-up time when operating at low thrust fighting wildfires. If more power is suddenly needed, waiting for the engines to accelerate can cost valuable seconds. By keeping the engines at a higher power setting while using the landing gear to create additional drag, the aircraft remains closer to its maximum available thrust. This can significantly reduce the time needed to reach full power. A well-known technique when rapid power changes matter. Also, the way the second chase aircraft is following so closely is incredible to watch. 📹: Even_Kiwi_1166

With the aircraft fully configured for landing, the spoilers would deploy to a baseline angle of 7°. Pushing the control yoke forward to command a steeper descent would raise the spoilers up to 14° without altering the aircraft's pitch attitude. Pulling back on the yoke would retract the spoilers toward their fully stowed position (0°), boosting lift and reducing the sink rate. Thanks to the DLC, the L-1011 made super stable approaches with rock-solid pitch attitude and rewarded with "greaser" landings more often. Did you know: A similar tech, called Auto-drag, exists in the Boeing 787. This function uses the ailerons and two outboard spoilers to automatically spoil lift/add drag when the airplane is above the glideslope. Autodrag works in conjunction with the autothrottle to automatically capture the vertical path without increasing or losing airspeed.

At these speeds, the landing gear produces a large amount of water spray. Engineers study how the spray moves around the aircraft and check that it does not adversely affect the engines or APU. The tests cover both takeoff and landing conditions, including reverse thrust during landing. The purpose is to verify that the A350 can safely operate when significant water is standing on the runway.

Video of the Amazon plane that just crashed at Miami International Airport. 5 dead. It landed halfway down the runway (with only about 7000 feet to stop) with a 30 knot tailwind. Note the spoilers and thrust reversers did not deploy which is not normal. He should have gone around. I'm quite certain 30 knots exceeds the airframes landing limitations. Even if there was an equipment failure, the flight crew is 100% negligent not executing a missed approach.
