I want to speak directly to San Francisco’s public-school parents and our students. I know many of you are worried about the possibility of a teacher strike that could temporarily close schools—and I want you to hear this clearly from me: our kids come first. As mayor, even though I don’t oversee our school district, I’m deeply committed to making sure our kids get a world-class education—with safe public schools where kids can learn and educators are well supported. It is crucial that our schools remain open. Every day in the classroom matters. I have been in regular contact with both the school district and the teachers union, and I am urging them to keep talking so kids can keep learning. Our working parents can’t afford to stay home if schools are closed. Our special needs students can’t afford to lose access to vital services that help them succeed. Schools are the foundation that makes daily life possible and helps every family in San Francisco thrive. I am also actively working with city departments to ensure we have options for our students in the event that classrooms do close. But I want to make one thing clear—what is best for our students is for the adults to continue discussions at the table so we can keep kids in the classroom. I will continue pushing for solutions that keep our schools open and our students learning. San Francisco’s families deserve nothing less.

Would you want to be a teacher on your staff as a principal? I have often asked teachers, would you want to be a learner in your own classroom, but the question above for administrators could be even more critical. If we do not support those closest to students every day in an effective manner, it is much harder for things to improve in schools. If we want learning to look different in classrooms, then leadership must also evolve. This doesn’t mean that everything done in the past has been wrong. Some things that mattered 50 years ago will matter now, both in learning and leadership. But replicating everything that was done in the past, whether it was effective or not, isn’t a great strategy for moving schools forward. I was blessed to learn from some amazing principals in my career, but I also learned about things that I hated as a teacher and swore that I would do my best not to replicate those strategies. I wrote this in my upcoming book co-authored with Allyson Apsey (Allyson Apsey) titled, “What Makes a Great Principal”: “If we do things in our schools and classrooms that were done hundreds of years ago that still work today, we should continue to do them. On the other hand, if we do new stuff just because it is new, but it doesn’t work, we shouldn’t be doing it. Whatever works for our community is where our focus should be, no matter when it originated.” What worked in the past? What would you change? What would you have wanted as a teacher, and how can you make that happen? Simply replicating the strategies of the past, whether good or bad, will not necessarily lead education to a better future. Innovation is crucial to leadership as much as it is to teaching and learning.

You can imagine Ryan Bridge's eyes rolling as he listens to this school board chair explain why her school is refusing to make govt requested changes to the teaching curriculum. The speaker Ms Kate Keddell is Chair of Queens School board (Dunedin) and she says the govt is wrong to ask schools to cut references to the Treaty of Waitangi. She knows all the buzzwords- diversity, inclusion, blah blah blah but doesn't know critical items like attendance rates or achievement results. Around 200 govt schools out of 2000 have made public statements reiterating their commitment to the Treaty. Kate said the Treaty was fundamental for schools in an inclusive society. "What it means for us is that when we are making decisions, we look at them through a lens of equity and cultural responsiveness and inclusion," she said. The government has said the Treaty is an obligation for the Crown, not schools. It said schools should be focused on ensuring high achievement for all students, not on figuring out how to give effect to the Treaty.

This teacher is one sick day away from being homeless. Her apartment is nearly empty, her refrigerator barely has anything in it at all, she has a car that works when it wants to, so where does all her money go to? The answer is she feels it’s necessary to make sacrifices so that her kids can have everything they need to be excited and engaged about learning. We always hear about how important their jobs are since they are teaching our kids and raising them in for us in many other ways. Since school funding can be tight, instead of teachers having to pay for everything to teach our kids, would it be appropriate or acceptable if at the beginning of the year the parents are charged a small materials fee for each child so teachers don’t have to spend their own money?

Stafford School Board Furry Gaymers Against Trump demand sexual and gender identity be respected! continuing on with highlighting policy 2420-p in STAFFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS and how it states that no student can have their gender or sexual identity ignored, and also that the students with whatever gender/sexual identity can have equal access to programs, activities, services or benefits (this includes bathrooms) so yes, right now, legally according to Stafford's own policy manual - it states that boys can use girls bathrooms, locker rooms, and other spaces. if you talk to a teacher (off record of course, if they answer this on record they will be fired) - that when a teacher sees a boy going in a girls bathroom, they cannot even ask the student anything. they cannot stop them or impede them in any way, or they will get fired. the superintendent and board members will try to hide behind legalese and say 'that isnt happening' in stafford schools, yet many parents are posting online and confirming that it is happening in the schools. Furthermore, to really highlight the absurdity of this policy, there are FURRIES and TRANIMALS (furries are just trans animals, i call them tranimals) in the classrooms in ALL levels of schools in stafford (including elementary). since the policy says you cannot discriminate, there are students that are meowing, barking, hissing, even attempting to bite at other students, and the teachers are not allowed to do anything. Many school board members are ON RECORD saying they 'do not care what a student wears as long as they are in school'. which reinforces my previous point - that schools will lose funding if students are not in school. they only care about the money, not the quality of education your child is getting. So I dressed up as a FURRY TRANIMAL to highlight how hypocritical these people are. within 2 SECONDS of my speech, you can hear the board chair, Maureen Siegmund, saying that i had to act like a human otherwise i had to leave (because i was crawling on all 4's). why can she and teachers NOT say that SAME EXACT SENTENCE TO STUDENTS IN THE SCHOOLS??? the fact that the other school board member, Dr. Elizabeth Warner, was rolling her eyes when i asked for kitty litter boxes in bathrooms to respect the FURRY TRANIMAL gender and sexual identities, shows what a hypocrite she is. SHE IS THE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER THAT HELPED WRITE A BRIEF BY AN LGBTQ+ ADVOCACY GROUP (Equality Virginia) TO MAKE SURE A TEACHER THAT USED THE "WRONG PRONOUNS" WOULD NOT GET HIS JOB BACK. how can she not respect MY sexual/gender identity as a FURRY TRANIMAL and not respect my ME-OW pronouns? then you have the superintendent, Daniel W Smith, Ed.D that makes public statements pretending like this isnt happening in stafford schools, when it is and parents are constantly making complaints about this. I have called out stafford and told them that they are going to cost themselves about $40 million in federal funding for not complying with trumps executive order to respect title IX. they do not care. they will pay their attorneys 300 to 500 an hour to make up policy to allow them to keep this current iteration of 2420-p on 8-26 when i went to the school board meeting, they voted to NOT CHANGE anything in 2420-p. they reviewed the policy (behind closed doors) and decided its perfectly fine (even though it goes against trumps executive order) call out these people. they are all hypocrites and frauds.

“We express our gratitude for this crystal clear position by the 145 countries addressed to the host country, to respect its obligation under the Headquarters Agreement… the host country does not have the right or the privilege to abuse its authority and deny visas for our leaders to participate. We sincerely hope that this abuse is reversed as quickly as possible. We have the right to be with all of you, for our leaders, to be with all of you, and to share our thoughts and ideas peacefully, diplomatically, legally, and in a civilized way. Denying us, denying our leaders, the opportunity to do so is an abuse of the authority, and it is a punishment for the State of Palestine that should not take place. There are things that we can do about it, and we don’t, but for some reason as Americans we value something different. It’s sickening, it’s sad for the kids, it’s sad for the kids that have to grow up like this. It’s sad for the kids to walk through the door and not know what’s going to happen. So hearts go out to the lives lost, kids that are hurt, teachers that have to go through this, families that drop their kids off at schools and don’t have their kid come home. Hearts go out to them. When the students are doing their 2 hours of academics, we have a recording system that watches their screen/webcam and streams the footage to our backend.
