The benefit of training BJJ without a timer

You could make the exact opposite point… “If you have no timer, it’s easier for people to just tap and give up because they know they can’t survive or get out. Timers are good because they give people an end goal to learn to resist under suffering. It makes tougher fighters.” I like his coaching style and I don’t think it actually matters either way (timer or no timer), but this seems like over analyzing the concept of timers.

Do your training a favor and go online with TalentLMS. Create courses in minutes, go live by end of day, and keep your training costs in check. →

And there is no clock when using BJJ in self-defense.

well - it depends. if you’re comp training it’s good to train with a timer because you’d have to know how to push the pace with little time left when possibly down by points.

Man this is enlightening because I have definitely fallen into the camp of “the timer beep is my savior and I’ll just survive till then” when I’m dead tired. Gotta break the habit of just looking at the clock as my breather.

Being aware of a bad habit forming is a good first step towards fixing it 👍

Been there - done that

That’s real shit

Which interview is this from? I’d like to watch it
