I've done this. Alaska to Seattle, Seattle to Tokyo, because I think putting pets in cargo is abhorrent. It was awesome. 10/10, would do again. It isn't very expensive to do it too. You just need to find an airline who do it. I think I used Alaska Airlines and Delta.

Airplanes have to be awful for pets...with that air pressure/ear drum thing.
