The best energy traders don't just grind for consistent monthly returns. Cory Paddock (Cory Paddock), founder of GBE (power trading firm), on why elite P&L is lumpy by design: "5 to 10 trades make up the majority of your year." "The rest you're just trying to learn, stay up,...

David Friedberg explains that owning a home is worse than investing in stocks Calls it the "Great lie" FRIEDBERG: "This is one of the great lies. Convincing everyone that the great American dream is to own a house. When owning a house for a lot of Americans ends up putting all your capital in one asset, and you've got to basically get the price of housing to go up every year to keep everyone moving up the ladder." "So now, fast forward 30, 40, 50 years, young people can't afford to buy a house anymore because we've pushed the asset value up so much to try and make sure that everyone's got good household wealth." BARTLETT: "We are told. I mean, that's the sort of central idea once you leave university—is to figure out how quickly you can get a mortgage or buy a house." FRIEDBERG: "Great lie. It's one of the great lies. And there's a lot of countries where people have been able to accumulate capital and jump that ravine from labor to capital much more quickly when they don't buy a house because they can invest in stuff. They can buy, you know, the S&P 500, which you can just buy on an E-Trade or Robinhood account, and you can just own it; on average, it will make you 10-11% a year. You just put your money in that, you're making 10-11% a year, and it can go up every year, and you don't have to pay taxes. You don't have to pay property tax. You don't have to pay insurance. You don't have to deal with repairs and maintenance. All that sort of stuff. So, a lot of people would have been better off, depending on the markets that they're in. There's some markets that ballooned, but a lot of people would have been better off over the last 30 years actually owning the S&P 500 than owning their home and paying for the rent on a home."

How To Trade Hard Penny Markets: "What you can do is trade the setups but sell them more aggressively. That's one way to adapt to harder markets. You can decrease your size, trade less, sell more aggressively, there's many ways of doing things. I personally prefer to just sit back and chill, wait for the easy money. I've traded hard penny markets so many times, it just ends up in frustration. Like a good market...like you're not supposed to work hard, like trading shouldn't be hard, you shouldn't be sitting there and you know, working your ass off, making trades all the time and....you should only trade a certain setup when the conditions are good for that setup. That's something I've realized over the years, I've traded so many of these choppy difficult markets and even if you make some money it was barely worth it because in a good market you will make more money in a few days than you would make in a few months in a hard penny market, so you may as well take a step back, chill, relax, you can do you some trades here and there but don't just constantly look for trades. A good setup, a good trade should be obvious, you're looking at it and you're like wow, that's an insane setup. that's how its supposed to be, you shouldn't be looking with a microscope or a telescope or whatever for trades, they should be kind of obvious, they should be screaming in your face... Now obviously it takes a lot of experience to get to that point, to know which is which. And unfortunately you will have to suffer for a few years before you get to that point, for me it took a lot of years, too many years." – Kristjan Kullamägi 🇺🇦 Full rant here: (well worth watching)

🚨BREAKING: United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer says the US trade deficit with the EU for 2025 likely bigger than the US deficit with China. Greer was asked a question suggesting America is treating Europe more poorly than China in terms of trade policy. Greer responded STRONGLY: “I think the premise is just wrong, because we have much higher tariffs on China… I mean, to suggest that we're treating Europe more poorly than China, is just out of line with the facts. I mean, there have been, since 2018, very substantive tariffs on China. There have been export controls on China—that they hate. You know, there have been investment scrutiny that the Congress of the United States has stepped up. It's just, these are just things of a totally different nature, I think, for the United States. Well, let me make one more point: Our trade deficit with the EU this year for 2025 might end up being bigger than trade deficit with China. We reduced that trade deficit by about 25% last year. So when it comes to imbalance, we have a huge imbalance with Europe. You've had huge access into the US market. For many years, we've had limited access into Europe. You limit our agricultural imports, you limit our industrial imports, and you have a huge surplus with us. And it's not because you're particularly competitive. I know I'm here in Europe, and I spent a lot of time in Europe… I like Europe, but the reality is you're not competitive… We know you have bad energy policies. The fact that you have this massive surplus with the United States can't be because you’re competitive.” [Note this is a machine translation, may not be 100% accurate!] I'm here in Davos during the World Economic Forum meetings. Shoot me a note if you're around!

Q explains once you worked hard and know what to look for, its all about waiting and not over trading. "How long did it take your journey, for instance? How did you do it? What process did you suggest for people down this road? Well, when I had a 40k account, I was day trading. I started doing more overnights when I had like a couple of hundred thousand or like 100,000, and then I started doing more swing trading, like three to five days, when I had a few hundred thousand. Now that I have in the millions, I don't even bother with these shorter-term trades. I'm just looking for big opportunities because I don't really have to make money. I don't care if I don't make money for the rest of the year. I'm just waiting for the next big opportunity, like when the market goes up a lot and I can make a million, two million in a short amount of time. The rest of the time, I don't sit there and day trade for a few thousand here, a few thousand there. I'm just getting too old for it. I don't want to spend the rest of my days like that. I want to trade the rest of my life, but I don't want to day trade. I don't want to sit there and look at charts seven, eight hours per day. I've done that. It's really exhausting. So I'm just sitting around and doing other things. Meanwhile, I look for big opportunities. The last big opportunity was late last year, early this year. I made well over a million in a very short time, in a few months. And I really didn't have to do much. I bought a few stocks and now I just waited. And that's how I like to trade. I don't want to work too hard for it because you don't have to. If you wait for your setups, you don't have to work that hard, but you have to work hard to get to the point where you know where the good setups are, if you understand what I mean. Patience is the hardest part because you feel like you have to do something. Every day I'm fighting the urge to trade. I'm a chronic over-trader. I probably always will be, and that's fine as long as I realize it and don't go crazy with it."
