In my opinion the greatest Dragon ever put to film is Smaug from the Hobbit franchise by WetaFX. It is the most real looking and feeling Dragon I have ever seen. The incredible team at Weta spent a lot of time iterating and developing the character to make it what it is in the final film, even changing his design after the first film was released with a small snippet of Smaug in his previous form (they went back and re-rendered that snippet for the digital release of the first film to keep it consistent). He was changed from a 4-legged Dragon to his final form which is technically a Wyvern. He was voice acted and given reference performance capture by Benedict Cumberbatch which proved to be helpful for the animators at Weta. I have never worked on a Dragon before but it is definitely on my wish-list of creatures to work on one day as they are my favourite fantasy creatures. I highly recommend taking a look at how he was made in the below links, it is truly inspirational the level of detail and craftsmanship that went into making him. Two Little Ones Meeting for the First Time… 🐱🐶❤️ The adorable little gray kitten is sitting quietly in the corner, her big round eyes looking around cautiously. Her fur is soft and silky, her tiny ears standing straight up, and her whole little body seems to be whispering, “This is my space… so please don’t come too close.” She’s still so young, and this is her first time seeing a strange puppy. Her little heart is probably pounding with a mixture of nervousness and fear, as she tries to protect her personal space. Then the little Dachshund puppy appears with tiny legs, a round little belly, and bright, curious eyes. He wobbles over, sniffing with his adorable little black nose, his tail wagging nonstop as if saying, “Hi… can we be friends?” The kitten immediately reacts. She puffs up a little, lets out a soft hiss, and even swats with her tiny paw as if to say, “Don’t come any closer! I don’t know you yet!” Her expression is a mix of annoyance and fear, making her look both incredibly cute and just a little “fierce” in that adorable way kittens can be when meeting someone new. But the little Dachshund isn’t discouraged at all. He simply backs away for a moment, then slowly comes closer again. Another match and another Gunther masterclass. The way he's telling stories in the ring is truly amazing. Dragon Lee starts the match smartly by jumping Gunther before the bell but quickly makes his first mistake. He gives his opponent time & space and Ring General capitalizes on it by hitting a brutal Back Body Drop on the floor. Lee is showing a lot of fire but he makes the same mistake over and over again which lets Gunther to be in control. Dragon tries to adapt his strategy to a counter wrestling, he baits his rival and makes Gunther run into him which works for a bit. But then he goes for a Suicide Dive and of course, he pays for it. But he's able to make a brilliant comeback, reversing move after move and finally taking Ring General down. Unfortunately, he gets little too excited, goes for Operation Dragon way too quickly and Gunther counters it easily. Now Gunther destroys Lee with Powerbombs. He could get a win but he remembers all the attacks and wants to punish luchador. This is the chance that Dragon was waiting for. He counters another Powerbomb into Sunset Bomb, fights through the pain and hits mutliple big moves. Now he would have any other opponent beaten but this is Ring General. He always has something up his sleeve, especially when he's in survival mode. He stops another Operation Dragon attempt, takes off Lee's mask and puts him in Sleeper Hold to get the win. Gunther is willing to use cheap tactics to get the job done, we saw it against AJ Styles, and now against Dragon Lee. Brilliant finish to a great match. Gunther was fantastic as always and a great underdog performance from Dragon Lee.

I modelled the head, face, and battle mask for Optimus Prime for #Transformers ROTB. I also designed his new "centurion" open battle mask look along with it's animation. The director wanted the face to resemble the face from the 2007 Transformers film as ROTB was a soft-prequel to it but also wanted it to be tweaked to fit the new design and for us to give it some new unique features. This is where we came up with the new mask design which doesn't get entirely hidden when open. Instead, it gets stored on the side of his cheeks, like a Roman centurions helmet. The head design is derived from his model from the 2018 Bumblebee film to keep some consistency with that film too as ROTB was also a soft-sequel to Bumblebee. There are new pieces, adjusted proportions, and reworks to detailing in ROTBs version. The face proportions are modified from the 2007 face to be a lot wider and beefier, matching his new head shape and look. I redesigned and built the eyes from scratch using our kitbash pieces like I did for all the Maximals and Mirage. The studio decided against going for the holographic eyes look from the 2018 Bumblebee film but rather wanted a more simple look in between the 2007 and the 2018 eyes. I added a lot of small mechanical details to his battle mask animation which we unfortunately never get to see in the film. For example, I designed a fully functional mechanism which pushes his chin piece back when his mask closes. This was very cool when it was visible, our Animation Director and VFX Supervisors were super excited about it, but unfortunately no shot showed it off in the final film. It was a lot of fun to help model and design Optimus Prime for this film. I'm happy I got to contribute to such an iconic character. I modelled the head, face, and battle mask for Optimus Prime for #Transformers ROTB. I also designed his new "centurion" open battle mask look along with it's animation. The director wanted the face to resemble the face from the 2007 Transformers film as ROTB was a soft-prequel to it but also wanted it to be tweaked to fit the new design and for us to give it some new unique features. This is where we came up with the new mask design which doesn't get entirely hidden when open. Instead, it gets stored on the side of his cheeks, like a Roman centurions helmet. The head design is derived from his model from the 2018 Bumblebee film to keep some consistency with that film too as ROTB was also a soft-sequel to Bumblebee. There are new pieces, adjusted proportions, and reworks to detailing in ROTBs version. The face proportions are modified from the 2007 face to be a lot wider and beefier, matching his new head shape and look. I redesigned and built the eyes from scratch using our kitbash pieces like I did for all the Maximals and Mirage. The studio decided against going for the holographic eyes look from the 2018 Bumblebee film but rather wanted a more simple look in between the 2007 and the 2018 eyes. I added a lot of small mechanical details to his battle mask animation which we unfortunately never get to see in the film. For example, I designed a fully functional mechanism which pushes his chin piece back when his mask closes. This was very cool when it was visible, our Animation Director and VFX Supervisors were super excited about it, but unfortunately no shot showed it off in the final film. It was a lot of fun to help model and design Optimus Prime for this film. I'm happy I got to contribute to such an iconic character. I vibe coded and built a sprite animation pipeline 🛠️ (Day 22 of making the engine+game) ⬇️ Watch the video if you don't wanna read the wall of text - it directly shows what I do. Shoutout to Jidé ✨ for showing me a paper on black/white combination to get alpha, it's the cleanest method yet, and to Cursor for enabling this entire journey. If you prefer the wall of text here you go: The hardest part of using general image models for 2D sprites isn’t getting a nice-looking frame, it’s getting consistent motion across a whole sprite sheet. You can fake a sheet, but frames won’t align, timing drifts, and you end up with weird artifacts. Even if you manually cut frames + interpolate, the animation often looks “off” because each frame is basically a new interpretation, not the same character evolving over time. This is especially noticeable with public API models like gpt-image-1.5 and Nano Banana. Some custom LoRAs for open models exist, but this is intended for less techy folks. My workaround: use a video model first, then post-process into a sprite sheet. Render the animation over a solid background (white/black/magenta/green), then chroma-key it out (my engine tool supports this). If the motion stays inside the silhouette, this works surprisingly well. You can do this in almost any video editing software too! The catch: keying almost always leaves an “aura” (edge spill). My best results come from interpolating the keyed animation with a clean base sprite, so you keep crisp edges and only “borrow” motion/detail where needed. If the animation extends outside the silhouette (tree branches, hair wisps, foliage), I usually skip “true sprite animation” and do it with shaders instead. Keying can’t fully remove halos there, no matter how much feathering/tuning you do. Another annoying issue: pixel corruption. AI rarely generates a perfectly flat background (pure #000000 or #FF00FF). That tiny noise breaks clean extraction and creates crawling garbage pixels around the subject. For clean base sprites (and even PBR maps), a useful trick is generating the same asset on white + black backgrounds and deriving alpha from the difference. This is basically a matte workflow: white = opaque, black = transparent. It fixes aura… but you’d need it per-frame to fix animation, which is still hard. For simple pixel art (single-digit frames), you can sometimes generate a sprite sheet, then ask the model to recreate it on black/white while preserving alignment… but it’s still manual-heavy. Honestly, at this point, for some projects it’s easier to go 3D → 2D and render clean sprites/maps directly. But I still love pushing “pure 2D” and seeing how far we can take it. Thanks for reading! When I rewatched Bilbo’s birthday party scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, there was one very brief moment that made me pause for quite a while: Gandalf’s dragon-shaped firework. I found myself wondering: Why does a dragon — a symbol of a world of adventure and danger — appear in the Shire in the form of a joke? At first glance, it is simply a very Gandalf-like fireworks display. Merry and Pippin mischievously send the dragon firework flying across the sky. The crowd of dancing Hobbits immediately panics and drops to the ground. Then the dragon explodes into a spectacular burst of fireworks, leaving Merry and Pippin’s faces covered in soot. I laughed. But the more I watched it, the more I felt that there was something very special about the humor in this moment. Because the dragon appears in a place where it seems completely out of place. The Shire is a world of parties, gardens, little homes, meals, and very ordinary pleasures. The Hobbits live lives almost completely removed from the great upheavals of the outside world. Dragons, however, belong to an entirely different world. They evoke distant lands, adventures, treasures, battles, and dangers that an ordinary Hobbit would never want to encounter. And yet Peter Jackson places that image right in the middle of a birthday celebration. But he does not show us a real dragon. He shows us a dragon made of fireworks. That is what makes this scene so interesting to me. Something frightening has been transformed into entertainment. A creature belonging to stories of adventure appears in the Shire, only to make everyone panic for a few seconds before they laugh again. The outside world has touched the Shire, but it has not truly entered yet. And Bilbo’s reaction makes me pay even closer attention. While everyone around him reacts with surprise to the dragon, Bilbo receives it with a very unusual calmness. He says: “There hasn’t been a dragon in these parts for a thousand years.” The line sounds very funny. But when I think about Bilbo’s life, I see another layer to it. The Hobbits around him know dragons only as things from distant stories. Bilbo, however, has actually stepped into that world. I am reminded again of Thrór’s map in Bag End, which preserves the traces of the journey to Erebor and the image of the dragon connected to Bilbo’s story. So when I see the dragon appear over the Shire, I cannot help but connect it with that past. In Bag End, the world of adventure lies on a map. At the party, it flies across the sky in the form of a firework. And in Bilbo’s life, that world was once real. From map to fireworks, from memory to amusement. Because it shows that Bilbo is living between two worlds. One is the Shire — where he can celebrate his birthday, drink, eat, and live peaceful days. The other is the world he once entered, a world of journeys and things that most Hobbits know only through stories. And then Gandalf appears. I really like the way the film ends this moment. Not with anything grand. There is no warning. No triumphant music. Gandalf simply walks over, grabs Merry and Pippin by the ears, and scolds the two troublemakers with an expression that is both stern and funny. A dragon has just flown across the sky. 5️⃣ It's hard to believe but Rocky has now been here for five days and I think today is the most incredible he has ever looked 💤 I had a lot of messages and suggestions that maybe it would be better to put Rocky asleep when I first found him on Saturday 🐕 I think you can see from his whole body language, his wagging tail, and how hungry he is that this is a dog that very much wants to live 🍣 Every day we have a little routine where I change his bandana and bring him some smoked salmon and poached chicken. It's a little boy's picnic and it's the most magical time, sitting in the sun, you could ever imagine. 👀 We're slowly getting towards a stage where we might be able to do more for him with his eyes but there's no rush on that because he has so many ailments. What I am noticing is that he's fantastic at navigating around using my voice, the smell of food, and by learning the different types of grass and trees in his small area There's a lot of bad news in the world and doom and gloom. Rocky might just be one little individual street dog in Thailand but I really think he's helping put a smile not just on my face but on people around the world. A truly special little creature is Mr. Rocky ❤️

Part 1: I have never zoomed in on their faces in the last KTV moment. Because I would just cry watching that last video. But I decided to do it today and my heart just broke more. The silence between them was sad but their faces and little thing they do? More sad, more heartbreaking. Yueyue looks like he will cry at any moment, the more he looks at his man the more his nose flares up, the more his fingers play with his Adam's apple, the more he tries to look up and blink each time. And Leizi...I can't make out his eyes but I know it's an unblocking stare at his moon in front of him. The more he looks, the more he anxiously bites his lips, the more he takes big gulps, the more his breathing deepens and the more his chest heaves. Now they are married and having a great time in their beijing apartment with their 3 kids but I cannot imagine what this moment felt for them. And I hope they never feel it again. Only warm cuddles and hugs and kisses to one another. (Part 2 will be me zooming in on the last scene where yueyue sings his heart out~ Don't kill me!)
