Balls that are centered at an infielder. (Not forehand or backhand) The glove should not get outside of the shoulders. Inside the shoulders at the midline allows for it to be on time and allow adjustments. Outside shoulders the glove will be late especially when it speeds up!

You can absolutely use your club to help get your feet aligned properly towards your target. Just don't set the club on the ground! If you set an object down on the ground for the purpose of getting help with aiming or taking your stance, it's the general penalty.

Pay-to-play in the US is at the level it is precisely because there is no pro/rel at the professional level. Without an open pro pyramid, the pay-to-play business model is practically forced upon all [youth] clubs, as there's no alternative revenue mode or potential ROI without a first team competing in the pyramid. Pay-to-play, and youth soccer in general, is relentlessly used as a scapegoat in American soccer in order to distract from the fact that the closed ecosystem is precisely the cause for those issues downstream. Of note, Infantino mentions that the Italian club in his example was in the 6th division. In other words, the club had a first team! When you have a first team, there's an impetus to reduce - if not eliminate - pay-to-play. Youth clubs in the States have no incentive to have a 1st team of their own. Because, again, if the pyramid is closed, there's no economic opportunity there. Worse still, in the off chance you build something of note, MLS will just come in and steal it from you.

But, in today’s game it’s very much heading towards the way of having a solid two-handed backhand and generating with the forehand. The game is so quick today, it helps to have that extra arm on the backhand. That’s why it’s so much more rare to see guys that have one-handed backhands….I blame Roger Federer, I grew up watching him and wanted to play like him so that’s def a big reason why I have a one-hander” 😅

I love and have used this set/up for WRs and contested catches. If D teaches to play through hands expect it and put the obstruction in that space & work securing the catch. Using the noodle and keeping the human out of the way helps avoid a silly land on foot rolled ankle.

A lot of infielders are scared of the short hop. Great infielders create it! Here are some keys to playing the short hop: 1️⃣ Move your feet The closer your glove is to the ball, the less that can go wrong. Move your feet to catch the ball as close to the ground as possible 2️⃣ Play from the ground up Playing under the ball softens our hands and allows us to play through it 3️⃣ Practice away from the field To get really good at fielding (or anything) you need to put in hours and hours of practice. There is not enough team practice time to get in the reps you need to play at a high level. You must take what you learned at practice and work on it at your house. The garage, basement, driveway, or backyard. Reps build trust. 4️⃣ Someone is always working It’s a big world. If you aren’t consistently sharpening your game, someone else is.
