It’s wild, cuz most of us are so dead broke the most we can afford is rent, food and nothing else. And the only thing we can afford we get shit on for. I get bother takeout and cook for myself, takeout isn’t really that much more expensive than cooking for yourself.

Spending $20 a day on lunch and coffee 5 days a week for a year is $5,200. “Saving” that and getting free lunch each day would take 12 years to get the downpayment on a $300,000 house, which is still well below average is most Us cities that have jobs

The absolute cheek of that woman lecturing people on how she saved money by making her own lunch, only to then tell us she waited for her old dear to push the daisies up and simply inherited instead.

I have saved enough for a 50% deposit and still can’t get a mortgage. Wish I had had more avocado on toast and enjoyed myself.

If you skip Starbucks and buying lunch everyday let’s say you save $15 a day. That’s $5,475 a year. If you invest that $5,475 a year for 6 years at 9% return you’d have $55,000 for a down payment. Starting fresh out of college you’d be a home owner well before age 30…
