Btw, this is the main train station for a metro area with a population roughly the same size as Miami, DC, Philly, or Atlanta. (In case you’re wondering how far behind we are)

43 years ago, France proved trains could reach 235 mph. Today, the Acela, the fastest train, in the world’s largest economy, averages just 67 mph. Don’t let anyone tell you we’ve truly tried high-speed rail in this country and it didn’t work.

You know GDP per capita does not correlate with quality of life when a place like this is poorer than every US state.

The idea that this Big Boy was rotting in a parking lot in Pomona, CA for six decades until Union Pacific rebuilt every component to get it working again is actually awe inspiring.

This is basically like off the shelf technology that our policymakers refuse to implement in the biggest economy on the planet.

I feel conflicted, but my opinion is that the design of this crossing is flawed and this doesn’t seem to be the driver’s fault. In your view, whose fault do you think it is?

For every new highway we build and/or expand, we should mandate we build rail in the median.
