The Office of the eSafety Commissioner has produced a guidance note to assist social media companies with the fast approaching under 16 social media ban. The methods used to verify age are likely to include the disclosure of sensitive data like documents, facial scans, location data and even biometrics. This data will be handled by foreign companies like TikTok but what happens to it then? Yesterday I asked the eSafety Commissioner about data security as part of the under 16 social media ban. Last night I voted against Labor’s Under 16 Social Media Ban Bill in the Senate. While I understand the concerns that many have about children and social media, Labor's Bill was rushed through the parliament. This Bill warranted far greater scrutiny and debate. It affects all Australians, yet only 24 hours were afforded for public submissions (which were overwhelmingly negative). I had more to say but, like other members, had little time. When we say that the media are simply another arm of the Irish Government - here is the proof. Virgin Media and RTE parroting (literally) the exact same worded propaganda. Until we crack mainstream media, the majority of the public will continue to consume propaganda, believing it to be news.

The Combatting Antisemitism Hate and Extremism (Criminal and Migration) Bill or Hate Groups Bill will come before the Senate this afternoon. I OPPOSE the Bill and will vote against it in its entirety. The Bill if passed expands state powers in ways that will erode freedoms under the guise of protecting against “hate”. The big winners today will be the security state not everyday Australians who will soon be even less free than they once were.
