Addis Ababa’s Riverside Development is far more than a riverbank beautification project. From the Entoto to Peacock corridor to the Entoto–Kebena stretch, this is a large-scale urban transformation that extends up to 50 meters beyond the rivers, creating green corridors, public gathering spaces, walkable areas, recreation zones, and commercial spaces that are reshaping the city itself. What makes the project especially significant is its broader economic and social impact. Beyond improving the appearance and function of the riversides, it has created jobs for many people across construction, engineering, landscaping, logistics, and related sectors, while also generating opportunities for local contractors, suppliers, and businesses. The fact that so much of the work is being designed and delivered locally highlights the growing capacity of Ethiopian expertise in urban development and infrastructure. The addition of walkways, parking facilities, children’s playgrounds, shops, public plazas, public toilets, and designated taxi and bus bays has revitalized the neighborhood, making it more accessible, inclusive, and livable for all. Corridor development projects across both urban and rural settings continue to introduce dignified, equitable public spaces that uplift communities. In particular, our recent rural corridor initiatives aim to rejuvenate rural areas and improve the quality of life for their residents. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Addis Ababa City Administration and the subcities that have mobilized resources to expand the corridor initiative into the city’s peripheral areas. I encourage other subcities and cities across the country to keep prioritizing citizen-centered approaches as we reimagine and reconfigure urban life for the better.

Through the development of Greenfield corridors, we are opening new routes that connect Enugu to neighboring states and position the state as a strategic economic hub. Projects such as Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem are linking multiple local governments and communities, ensuring that development reaches every part of the state, not just urban centers. These roads are creating a gateway to the North Central region, with direct access toward Abuja, improving the movement of people, goods, and services across regions. The dual carriageway, spanning 80 kilometers in total, is designed to reduce travel time, improve safety, and support long term economic growth.
