The default in marriage is having one wife while polygamy is an exception

Honestly, I really don’t get why people are constantly arguing about polygamy. It’s a permissible option in Islam, not an obligation. If a man wants it and the women involved agree, fine. If a woman isn’t okay with it, she can choose a man who prefers monogamy. Simple.

Women choose courtship, men pick wives. Women are conservative with who they date, men are conservative with who they marry. Women are picky when it comes to sex, men are picky when it comes to commitment. To be a wife you have to be selected. We need Fathers to teach this.

There’s difference of opinion on this. You’re Hanafi and as far as I know, the Hanafi fuqaha don’t hold this opinion. Correct me if I’m wrong.

The Islamic standard is Polygamy. The Seerah clearly shows that. The Sahaba were dirt poor but continued to have multiple wives. So economics was not the main consideration, rather it is the: - Prevention of Zina - Procreation - Less widows - Less singles

The default is polygyny. First Allah said marry 2, 3 or 4. But if you can't do justice, stick to 1.

Polygamy makes perfect sense in situations where there are women who need husbands, and there are not enough food quality men to marry them. It's not right for a women, especially if she has been widowed or the like, to be left alone if there are good options to marry.

It is actually the other way round, it is obligation to marry multiple women in Islam. Marrying one is an exception:

That’s one opinion. Others have said otherwise on the basis that ayat says “two, or three, or four but if you fear…” . They have argued that the order of the ayat indicates what the default is, and then clarifies the exception.
