The Ghaggar River has overflowed, and the water has entered Khajoor Mandi village, Tiwana, Sadhanpur, Sarsini, and the nearby farmlands. From Khajoor Mandi, the water is flowing downstream towards the Tangri River in Haryana. For the first time after the Shahpur Kandi Dam was built in Punjab’s Pathankot district, work has begun to divert water from the Ravi river into the Ujh Barrage. This is the first time since Independence that Ravi river water will be used on a large scale in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab. Earlier, all the water from the Ravi river used to flow into Pakistan via the Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab border. Farmers in Punjab, and especially in Jammu & Kashmir, had to depend on the monsoon for water. During the monsoon, the Ujh Barrage would hold water for only 2 to 3 months, after which the barrage would nearly dry up.

A man in Techiman has shared a video of a slender-snouted crocodile spotted in the river, which he says surfaced due to the large amounts of waste being dumped into it. He strongly advised residents to stop polluting the river, noting that the waste is harmful to the crocodiles. He further warned parents to be vigilant and keep their children away from the river as they could be at risk, and also cautioned people constructing buildings close to the river that the crocodiles are capable of climbing fences and entering their homes.
