Metro fares in other Indian cities, even for similar distances, are lesser than that of Bengaluru Metro. In Bengaluru, a 20 - 25 km ride costs ₹80, while in Delhi, even a ride of 32 km is just ₹64. In Mumbai, a 12-18 km journey costs ₹30, yet in Bengaluru, traveling 10-15 km already costs ₹60 which is 2x the fare. The highest fare in Mumbai is ₹70, whereas in Bengaluru it is ₹90 for journeys beyond 25 km. Metro fares in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Nagpur are 25-50% lower than Bengaluru. If metro organisations in these cities are charging commuters this much, why can't Bengaluru? Watch.

Currently, 96 km is operational, including 19-km Yellow Line with a daily footfall of 1 lakh passengers and a 30% drop in traffic along its corridor. An additional 41 km will be opened in 2026 and 38 km, including the airport line, by December 2027. Tenders for 100 km under Phase 3 will be called next month. Casting of Base Slab at both Vikhroli and Sawli shafts is completed •Work on all three elevated stations i.e. Thane, Virar and Boisar are progressing rapidly •First Base Slab at Virar Bullet Train station is already cast •Pier foundations and pier work is progressing at multiple locations along the alignment. The Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu cut travel time from North Guwahati to the city from 90 minutes to 15 minutes. We are building India's first road-cum-rail tunnel under the Brahmaputra — the Gohpur-Numaligarh Tunnel, Cabinet-approved in February 2026, which will cut a 6-hour journey to under 20 minutes.
