The eagle-eyed among you might recognise we shared this earlier - here it is with video evidence! Every elephant is special, but there's something about Taroha. He is easygoing, gentle, and unusually nurturing for a bull. We often see him fussing over the little ones, breaking up disputes, and... pulling down leaves his smaller friends can't reach. He even now holds his own bottle – although much of the contents dribble down his chin! He is also a hard-won success story. We rescued Taroha in March 2023, after KWS rangers discovered him on the shores of Lake Jipe, alone and terribly vulnerable. He arrived at the Nursery in poor health and for many months it was a daily struggle to keep him alive. But we never gave up on him:show more

Taroha is four years old and has already taken up the mantle of protector of the herd. It's exhausting work: when Daba tried to push Kipekee for no reason, Taroha stepped in. When Olomunyak tried the same trick with Alia, Taroha came to the rescue again. So when we found him completely horizontal on the banks of a little pool with his trunk in the water, we knew he'd earned the break. His foster mom had to carry him up and down the stairs for days — wait for the day he FINALLY made it up the stairs on his own ❤️ We talked to Monica about how Otto was SO terrified, but her dogs helped him come out of his shell… and when she surprised him with a box of toys, he turned into a puppy again! Knicks coach Mike Brown on Landry Shamet: “I’m talking about his whole career because he’s been a journeyman, but he probably deserved more of an opportunity because what he does out on the floor on both ends is very hard to find in this league, especially at his size, with is mental and physical toughness. We gave him an opportunity and showed him we loved him. He embraced it and he ran with it.”

A hard rescue today as I got a message from a kind local lady who needed help with an old blind dog. The poor boy was most likely dumped in the area because the “end was close for him”. He was confused on the beach and stuck. He wouldn’t have lasted much longer were it not for their bravery. His vet results were about as bad as it gets. His eyes might be glaucoma as he can’t see a thing and his kidneys and liver are bad as well as severe anemia. His anemia is so bad we can’t even put him on a drip. While I was driving him around I just had to keep talking to him as his head would keep dropping. His body is so weak. He is also very hard to handle as he lashes out with bites as he can’t see what is going on around him. He is terrified. The ladies called him Rocky as they are hoping he will make a comeback. It won’t be easy at all but he did start eating, drinking and resting well this evening. We will all have to keep everything crossed for this lovely boy. Whatever happens he isn’t on his own and he has the best medical care now. Rocky even let me pet his head tonight. I think he understands he is safe.

Here is an update on the little orange guy we rescued from under a car. When we got him home, he was cold to the touch, so we got him set up in the incubator. Once he warmed up, he ate, and we got him started on treatment. We have named this little nugget Kershaw.

Bungalu is a survivor! Small, skeletal, and totally alone, he had been spotted several times, but only for a moment before hiding away. On 27th February, we mobilised a rescue with the KWS – but just before our helicopter arrived, he zigzagged past everyone on the ground and vanished. Two days later, following a monumental storm, two local Maasai men found and secured the calf - it was a miracle to find him still alive. We raced to the scene and flew him to our Kaluku Unit. There we discovered another twist in Bungalu’s story: He had deep claw marks laced across his back. The wounds had scarred over, but he had clearly been pursued by lions. Bungalu was a hard-won case. He was skin-and-bones, riddled with ulcers and parasites. For weeks, he remained in fight-or-flight mode, barely sleeping as he rocked in his stable. But despite all he’d been through, Bungalu embraced his Keepers from the outset. He was visibly relieved to be part of a family again. ⭐️ Bungalu’s care is entirely funded by donations. i think haechan is the strongest idol i’ve watched from the start to now. watching his journey and watching him grow, ive heard him tell fans that he doesn’t look at hate comments and doesn’t pay mind to them. i’ve seen him come back after horrible rumours and allegations, come back after thre@ts against him and even his loved ones, invasion of his privacy and the compromise of his personal safety. i’ve waited for him while he was on hiatus for his health, i’ve seen him push through really horribly busy schedules and running back and forth between units. and we watched him push back even his solo because he felt he couldn’t be apart from his team yet. and more recently, we saw members who he grew up with start to leave and for him to adjust to the changes. there were so many times it must’ve been hard. so many times haechan assured us he was okay and he would keep going. if you’ve been a fan of haechan for a long time, i think you’d know that haechan really Really hasn’t been the type to share his feelings much. not to fans and sometimes not even to his members, to the point even members ask haechan to rely on them more. he isn’t vulnerable often and a lot of the time it’s HIM who always brings up the mood and keeps everyone happy when others may be feeling down or sentimental. as much as hearing haechan allow himself to share his feelings brings me a little relief because i’m honoured he trusts us enough to share his thoughts, it hurts knowing how much he does try to bury it inside and tell himself “it’s okay” when actually, it does make him sad too. i knew it a few months back. i meant it when i thought that we have to take care of haechan. we really really have to look after him. he is so precious not only to us, but to the people who work with him past, his family and his members, past and present. he may be our sunshine, but we can’t always depend on him for our happiness if we can’t look after him in return. i really hope in the upcoming years, now that haechan has renewed his contract and wants to stay in both teams and continue doing what he’s figuring out he loves, i hope haefs can be his no. 1 source of security so he knows there will always ALWAYS be people in his corner ☹️🩷

Polar Bear is a local community dog. He was left on the island by foreigners years ago. Luckily the locals love him. But they love him a bit too much by over feeding him. We help with health care and the sign for his own good. Its gotten quite serious so he is in for an extended stay now. Not an easy situation but he is very very loved

We’ve seen a lot of dogs in bad conditions but I think this lovely boy might be the worst pain I’ve ever seen a dog in. We’d been told about him by a kind man in the community who found him but had no idea how to help beyond giving him water, food and putting a little electric fan on him. He eventually got through to us in sheer desperation. The dog has been there for days apparently and probably hit by some sort of major trauma. He hasn’t eaten or drank his water and he was laying in his own pee and poop. That little alley way was where it was all going to end very soon because I could see from his gums and other signs he was in big big trouble. We had to just go for it and make a stretcher with what we had and push through the pain. It took us 40 minutes to get back to Tina’s hospital and he screamed at every tiny bump on the road. I thought his spine was broken and was super relieved when it wasn’t. I thought he might be so bad that we’d never be posting this video as it might be better to put him out of his misery. He is very sick and has some stuff going on internally but it is pelvis related we believe. He is by no means 100% going to make it as he has so much going on inside him but we have some hope now. The team are in full action mode to try and save him. I called him Bear as he is a big fluffy gentle giant I can tell. I’m not sure how this story ends but it’s already better than he was alone in that alley this morning. He’s having a huge sleep now with lots of pain relief and meds. 🤞🤞🤞

His images were circulating in various Facebook groups in our area, with people asking for help for this poor animal in obvious distress. He wouldn't let anyone get close to him. At last, we managed to locate him and we ran after him for half a day, 🤯 (given his injured neck we didn't want to put a collar on him). In the end he gave in and he let us take him. He was immediately operated on to remove the collar and treat his injuries. We wish him a speedy recovery because he both deserves it and needs it.
