The problem is waaaaay bigger than the education system. Knowledge is there for the grabs literally for free. Never in our civilisation has knowledge and information been this accesible… something else is broken besides the education system.

accurate. people who are fully engaged will very obviously learn more. school infrastructure is not only uninspiring, it also feels like a prison

All part of the overall model design. You can’t change one without the other

It's a well-known issue in Portugal. Most kids don't want to learn because the school is boring, it's outdated. I don't know how to fix it. But we could start by introducing more daily life subjects like managing their wallets, letting them experiment by doing worklife tasks, and learning languages by introducing it's grammar at later stages. Also, let technology be more part of it, put some topics has "history lessons" it was done this way and now you can do this way, look how awesome it is.

This is a critical issue - and is true globally - the reality is that the public school system sucks. The nature of public system of schooling is standardisation - a necessary result of centralisation. But there is no standard child. Standardisation works for the administration of "School". We can talk all we want (and do lots of this!) about student-centred learning or learner-centred engagement, but the centralisation of education is like the centralisation of banking: Fundamentally flawed and in service to different ends than we would like to imagine. The hegemony of certain histories and ways of thinking is the goal RATHER THAN unlocking the genius of our children. We're on this mission together, @Fidias0

Well pointed. If we want to get the EU project back on tracks we must start with education. But first we need to give the kids a clear sign that good things will come out of it by getting rid of the bureaucrats that pollute the EU institutions. Education is the key!
