Man Rammed off Road, Chased and Attacked, Bradford Police are investigating after reports a man was attacked in the street on Charnwood Grove/ Harrogate Road, Bradford. Officers were called at 15.49 yesterday (9 January) to reports of an assault with weapons. No injuries have been reported. A short while later another call was made reporting a road traffic collision between a Mitsubishi Shogun and Audi RS6 at the junction of Dudley Hill Road and Harrogate Road. BOMB SQUAD called into Leeds waste recycling centre after suspicious package found Large cordons were in place tonight around a popular retail complex along with a huge emergency response. It follows the discovery of a package within the Kirkstall Recycling centre on Kirkstall Road this evening. The Royal Logistics Crop (bomb squad) were called at around 5pm to the scene after the discovery. Yorkshire Ambulance dispatched their incident response to the scene along with specialist ambulance officers. West Yorkshire Fire and rescue sent an appliance from Leeds and a specialist fire officer to coordinate the response between all services. West Yorkshire Police have confirmed; “Police were called at 4.58pm by a caller reporting finding a potentially suspicious package in an outbuilding at a recycling plant on Redcote Lane, Leeds. “Officers have attended and the area has been evacuated as a precaution while the item is assessed.” Cordons were lifted at around 10pm.

After meeting schoolchildren and members of the public in Bradford today, The Queen, as Patron of National Literacy Trust, hopped onboard the Bradford Stories Bus. The bus has been converted into a travelling literacy event space, helping to inspire children to read and write for pleasure. Afterwards, The Queen visited the Brontë birthplace in Thornton, West Yorkshire, which Her Majesty officially opened. It’s the first time the public has been able to visit the site. The Queen is an avid reader and The Queen’s Reading Room has previously featured Emily Brontë’s classic ‘Wuthering Heights’.

Littering on UK roads is getting worse, according to a major new AA survey. More than half of drivers questioned said they have noticed more rubbish on roads and surrounding areas compared with previous years. It comes as an investigation is underway to find those responsible for tonnes of household waste, which has been found dumped illegally in a lane just outside Bristol. Jonathan Swain reports.

Man Arrested After Knife Incident, Bradford College A man has been arrested following an incident near Bradford College this morning. Reports were received from 9.21am of a man armed with what appeared to be a knife on Great Horton Road. He was detained by college security staff and arrested by attending officers. A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two members of the public and assaulting two emergency workers. He was also arrested for a racially-aggravated public order offence and causing damage to a police vehicle. The two injured members of the public have been taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. A small gardening tool was seized by police at the scene. Detective Inspector Ailis Coates said: “We know that this incident will understandably cause some concern in the community. I would like to reassure people that the suspect was quickly detained by security staff and arrested by the police. “We understand that this incident has been witnessed by a large number of people and that some people may have filmed bits of it. We would ask them to please share this footage with the police as it could greatly assist us in our ongoing investigation. “We currently have a police scene in place on Great Horton Road and people can expect to see our neighbourhood policing colleagues in the area providing reassurance to college staff and students and the wider community.”

Mohammed Hassan has been remanded in custody and suspended by the force.
