‼️ "People from the East are flocking to Belarus": Lukashenka threatens the EU with a new hybrid war Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenka, speaking today in a church for Orthodox Christmas, once again turned to threats against EU countries. This time, he began to threaten the EU countries bordering Belarus with a new proxy war using migrants as weapons. Lukashenka claimed that "people from the East are starting to flock to Belarus." He complained about their "incompetence" and "lack of professional skills," adding that "uncontrolled migration is a disaster" for Belarus. Belarusian dictator literally admitted that Belarus is the main transit route for migrants heading to Western Europe: "There is a huge transit through us to the West, where [migrants] are trying to get to," accusing the EU of blaming it for the flow of refugees. "We will not protect anyone from migrants. Especially those who impose economic sanctions on us. Why should we protect them?" said Lukashenka. Belarusian regime is once again using migrants as a weapon against Europe, showing complete disregard for human lives. This hybrid war started in 2021 when the regime orchestrated a migration crisis on Poland's border. Thousands of refugees from Africa and the Middle East attempted to cross into Poland, often with the help of Belarusian security forces, who facilitated fence-breaking and clashes with Polish border guards. Lukashenka's bloody games cost many migrants their lives. Hundreds froze to death or starved in the forests, while thousands were injured trying to climb over border fences. According to Polish authorities, around 15,000 migrants were present in Belarus in November 2021, with 2,000 to 4,000 stranded directly at the border. Last year, the Polish Sejm significantly expanded the powers of border guards, military and police officers in the fight against illegal migration. According to the new law, law enforcement officers are allowed to use live ammunition to prevent migrants from attempting to cross the border illegally. Video: Belarus-Poland border, November 2021.

ABUSE OF AFRICAN MIGRANTS IN LIBYA Thousands of African migrants cross into Libya every year in the hope of crossing over to Europe. Since the assassination of Gaddafi in October 2011 by NATO-backed rebels and the ensuing collapse of the Libyan state, conditions for newcomers have radically deteriorated. As this Al Jazeera clip from 2018 reports, many end up trapped in illegal detention centres, where they face torture and other inhumane treatment. According to Migration Policy, ‘those living in the community are vulnerable to extortion, violence and slave-like work conditions, while migrants held in detention centres may experience overcrowding, sexual abuse, forced labour, torture, and deprivation of food, sunlight and water.’ While Libyan authorities continue to deny these allegations, claiming that ‘the issue of migrant abuse is being fabricated to force international intervention,’ the abuse has been widely documented, with first-hand testimonies provided by those who made the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean and reached Europe. Unlike today, during Gadaffi’s time, Libya had a thriving job market that made it an attractive destination for African migrants. There were roughly 2.5-million migrant workers according to the International Organization for Migration. Thirteen years later, it has become one of the worst places to be an African migrant. Under the guise of propelling democracy and advocating for human rights, the West turned Libya from a successful, economically prosperous nation, to a failed state. No matter how loud the Freedom Flotilla is, let’s remember: they failed their “humanitarian mission” days before ever reaching Gaza. Remember when Greta, Rima, and the rest encountered Sudanese migrants during their trip? These were people who had risked everything, throwing themselves into the sea to escape a brutal civil war in Sudan and inhumane slavery in Libya. In Sudan, the war has killed at least 150,000 people in just two years, and displaced over 13 million. It’s also causing one of the world’s worst famine today officially recognized by the UN: more than 50% of the population (over 25 million people) are starving. And nearly 750,000 are already in catastrophe-level hunger. For the cameras, the Madleen took four Sudanese refugees on board. But just a few hours later, they handed them over to Frontex, the EU’s border agency. The institution is known for returning migrants to the places they tried to escape. The Freedom Flotilla saw people fleeing one of the worst wars and famines of our time. They used them for photo ops, then handed them back to Libya, where migrants are routinely treated as modern-day slaves. And yet they have the audacity to lecture us on humanitarian values? No matter how loud their propaganda was, this is the truth: When confronted with a real, massive humanitarian catastrophe, they looked away. And count on them now to NEVER mention the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan again. Because it was never about saving lives, it was about demonizing Israel and helping Hamas.
