The first driver 'hands-free' passenger buses will go into service in Scotland on Monday. In a UK first, the five single-decker buses will carry around 10,000 journeys a week. Juliet Dunlop reports from one of the buses which is on a trial journey.

#WATCH | Thiruvananthapuram: At a press conference, Keralam CM VD Satheesan says, "... In the first cabinet meeting, we decided to implement two of the five guarantees promised during the election. The first is free travel in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses, and the second is to constitute a new department for senior citizens. The free travel scheme will begin on 15 June in all ordinary KSRTC buses, with no age or income limit, and transgenders will also benefit. The government will bear the liability of Rs 750–800 crore and pay this amount to KSRTC."

“25% never used bus” “75% don’t usually used bus” So what % uses bus regularly? I.soba Public buses will not solve Male’ traffic congestion. In fact, more buses will make it worse. You know why? Male’ has a volume issue. Vehicle owners will not switch to buses. The people who use buses are those who find taxis too expensive or who have no other options. Those who own vehicles will not switch to buses cause a private vehicle offers convenience and flexibility that buses don’t. Buses in Male’ are a last resort, economical option for the people who use them. They should not be viewed as a traffic congestion solving policy. Increasing the number of buses will only take up more road space in Male’ and will not reduce the number of private vehicles and taxis. The only way to solve the congestion is to limit the number of vehicles.
