China has acquired key jet fighter technology from the Russia ,US & Israel, through a mix of cyber espionage,other illicit means, commercial industrial ties, and reverse-engineering assistance. China has been able to close the technology gap much more rapidly than expected.

China win simply by being able to do this, getting radar signature information on the Rafale, and other potential information on the asset. The J16 isn't what will be deployed against the Rafale by China. That will probably be their more modern fighters. But it will use this.
