Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. loved America. He loved our country so much that he dedicated his life — and in the end, his life was taken — in a fight for our nation's highest ideal: Freedom. Last week, it was my honor to visit the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. As I stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel where Dr. King spent his final moments, I thought about what he would see if he looked at America now. What would he think? What would he say? In his time and in ours, others seek to make us afraid, divided, and silent. We will not give them that satisfaction. As we honor Dr. King today, we continue the fight with determination, resilience, and joy.

I just traveled as a member of the Pentagon press corps to GITMO and CENTCOM U.S. Central Command where Secretary of War Pete Hegseth Pete Hegseth set a great example for our nation by doing grueling PT in the dirt with our frontline troops at Guantanamo Bay. Instead of hiding in an office like his predecessors, Hegseth is forcing his entire staff to workout with the troops, eat with them and meet with them in person to improve the culture of our military and the morale of our troops. Hegseth’s genuine demeanor and strong leadership shows he actually cares about our military. He can talk the talk and walk the walk, and everyday, he proves to the world that he is fully capable of running the strongest military in the world at the highest level.

What a brave brother. What was going through his mind in his final moments? Clearly, some of our NPP friends have a comprehension problem. These guys are so naive, that they don’t even know the difference between a “mere mate”, which is what Bawumia falsely claims to have been to Akufo-Addo and a “spare driver”, which is what John Mahama rightly says he was to Prof. Mills of blessed memory. Whereas, Bawumia claims that he has been a “mere mate”, to Akufo-Addo, ostensibly to dissociate himself from the mess of his own government, Mahama said in 2012, that he was a spare driver to Prof. Mills, (which is what we have insisted a VEEP is all along). As you can see in the attached video, H.E. John Dramani Mahama owned up to, and defended the record of the Mills/NDC government that he was a part of as a spare driver and justified why the NDC, deserved another term to continue its good works. He never attempted to distance himself from any decision of the Mills government that he was a part of. Again, John Mahama in 2012, campaigned on the basis of “continuity” as can been seen in the attached video, but today, dishonest Bawumia is preaching a “new path” with a promise to undo several of the key policies of his own government, as though he is an opposition leader in his own government. Tolkien warned them it might take some time. It took 17 years... He wrote it in the margins of a demanding full-time job, revising endlessly, doubting it often. When The Lord of the Rings was finally published, in 1954 and 1955, he was in his early sixties. That book, begun as a middle-aged professor's private side project, went on to sell well over a hundred million copies, to invent modern fantasy as we know it, and to reshape the imagination of the entire world. We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our dear friend and colleague, Rep. Doug LaMalfa. Doug was a devoted public servant who deeply loved the people of Northern California and never stopped working for them. He believed in this country, in our work, and in the responsibility we have to serve every constituent with care and humility. He was one of the kindest men to ever serve in this institution, and he will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with his wife Jill, their four children, and all who loved him.
