The Flock-o-matic! This is pretty amazing. This system detects Flock camera signals, so that when you drive by a Flock camera, the device automatically blocks your license plate. Once you're out of range, your plate visibility returns to normal. I'm almost certain this is illegal to do, so I'm...

I’m not sure it could ever be illegal to obscure your license plate from a public camera. As long as it’s visible to official cameras, I feel certain you’re in the clear.

Mostly bullshit. Teaser shows GPS, relay, and a plate cover, not proven signal detection or a real Flock test. Obscuring plates is illegal in nearly every state, and Flock still logs vehicle make, color, and features.

I'm curious... why might blocking Flock be illegal? We didn't agree to it, it isn't a law to spy on us. Seems like "turn about" is fair play!

This is impractical because it only knows location data versus actual signal sniffing data. This also means only publicly available location data would be usable so it's unusable against unknown cameras and or other companies cameras that don't have location data publicly known. It would also need to shut down every single time it passes a US postal service truck, city garbage truck, city school bus, city bus, and literally every other city vehicle that could have a possible camera on it.

How long before they start handing out tickets for these types of license plates?

It’s already illegal for them (4th Amnd) to capture and catalog our license plates and info It is a “private” company that owns the cameras and network, not a Gov agency You are not impeding any official gov activities, just the activities of a private company Am I wrong??

Hiding your tag doesn’t help because the cameras are trained to log and look for other identifying features and marks such as stickers, body damage or anything it’s trained on. Also many can ping and log Bluetooth and WiFi id’s off your phone, car, headphones and more.

make the opaque state have images of the middle finger so that the flock cam captures that, then I'll use it.

I noticed a license plate yesterday that had a plastic darkening cover over the license plate. You could still read the letters but it was very dark. People are getting creative.🏆

Doesn’t matter because flock doesn’t just capture license plates. It captures even the smallest dents in your car, signals being emitted from your car, bumper stickers, color, etc. license plate does not matter.

It is illegal. Several people on Long Island had similar devices for red light cameras (a manual toggle though). Many tickets layer and the guy that made them mysteriously moving away and I haven’t seen them since (up until I moved anyway)

New mass surveillance technology is being deployed in America, it will track Americans via Bluetooth connection from their devices If “you thought Flock was bad, something even more terrifying is being installed all over America. It's made by a defense contractor called Leonardo, and here's what it does” So the biggest problem with these LPRs, license plate readers like Flock, is that it needs to use a license plate to identify you This company has found a way around that They've made a device that can be installed next to any existing license plate reader that once it's installed, that next time they pull your license plate, it will pull all the unique Bluetooth identifiers from all the smart devices in your car. But it doesn’t stop there, it gets worse Once they have those devices, they link them to you via your license plate, and now they never need to scan your license plate again. These new sensors can be installed anywhere, and they can even see who's traveling with you It’s made by Leonardo DRS, they are a defense and technology company that works with U.S. military, law enforcement and intelligence agencies These devices are reportedly being deployed or tested in various US cities alongside existing LPR networks It’s called SignalTrace and it can be easily added onto any existing camera of their or Flock It’s described as “An advanced intelligence system that upgrades standard license plate readers to track people by their smart devices they carry, rather than just by their vehicles This is insane and should be federally banned. This is the surveillance state

This is an incredible video from Polk County (FL) Sheriff Grady Judd on Flock cameras. It's long but it's a must-watch. "The license plate readers, known as 'Flock,' is the single best tool to keep people safe and to find those that have run away from or driven away because of Alzheimer's or dementia." "We don't need to do away with the best tool to keep you safe. But what we need is the guardrails that the professional agencies have to include us inculcated in state law. Not just about the license plate readers known as flock, not just about the toll cameras, not just about the red light cameras, not just about the speed cameras in the school zones, not just about the cameras on the school buses, but all of the technology. We need to have robust rules that ensure your privacy, ensure an auditing process, and ensure an accountability process." "There are those that are concerned, 'Well, they know where I'm going.' Well, let's make sure we have this all put together. There are license plate readers that read your tag number when you're on the toll road. It knows where you're going. There's red light cameras that read your tag number. They know where you're going. There's school speed cameras that read your tag number. They know where you're going." "The body cameras record your face. The body cameras comes into your private business. But not one word about them. And they invade your privacy every day and every time there's a police officer there. Not one word about the cameras on the patrol cars that also have license plate readers." "There's cameras on school buses that read your tag number when you stopped past school buses. They know where you're going. So the bottom line is we've picked out flock, this one series of cameras that's the least invasive of all of them." "I'm never going to apologize for saving lives and solving crime."
