The Fold 8 not having flex mode sucks the hinge is spring loaded, it’s even open fully or fully closed

Let's be real, who actually uses flex mode? I've had the Fold 7 for 8 months and never used it once

*lets take a feature away because nobody uses it* is just defending them for no reason

*Let's keep a useless feature that only 1% of users actually take advantage of in order to have a more stiff/annoying hinge* Idk, I'd rather have a spring-loaded hinge that keeps my open screen actually flat while watching content, than to have flex mode.

Samsung just making sure to leave some flaws so that Apple can build a way better product and sell it.

It was one of several dealbreakers for me on the Samsung Fold 8 Wide. I pre-ordered the tradition style Samsung Fold 8 Ultra for a no compromise experience with a lot of the features I’m use to using on my Fold device.

Not as much as the fold 6 and 7 sucked for only opening to 176 degrees. They felt and looked super cheap. The priority should always be making sure it snaps open perfectly flat and stays that way for the life of the phone

Well, now I understand more about the name and difference between the Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra. Basically, the Fold8 has fewer features than the Ultra, and this is one of them, a less advanced camera, shorter battery life, and a worse hinge. But for me, the names are still bad.

I can honestly say that through all the foldables I have used, I have never thought that flex mode was even remotely useful. To the point that I even forgot it existed until people said it wasnt in the Fold 8

I tried it out in a store today. The fold 8 didn't convince me.

It’s not just spring loaded. The hinge has magnets too. I asked them why and they said it was because they believed most people would prefer it to snap open and stay perfectly flat. They also said that in “tent” mode you could basically watch content just like in flex mode

Since lots of people are replying saying "who uses flex mode anyway" I did use flex mode to watch Netflix on my pixel 9 pro fold and have a kick stand essentially. Because of the weird aspect ratio your viewing area isn't that much smaller either

When the Apple foldable comes out it will do it and then Samsung will correct the Flex mode by software, so that the screen has the same options as the previous Folds but the hinge problem is stupid

that's how it should be. you need to use a folding phone for more than few months to understand why this stiffer hinge is a bad idea after a long term use
