The Future is Now: Another Amtrak “Next Generation” train set—assembled at Alstom in Hornell, NY—is completed and soon to be ready for use on the Northeast Corridor hopefully this spring. Caught it near Swain, NY today. These sleek new sets are capable of speeds of 160 MPH.

@Amtrak Um, weren't there already a dozen Acela 2 trainsets sitting around, gathering dust in Philadelphia, PA? Maybe @AlstomUSA should be focusing their efforts getting those operational instead of building another broken train?

@Amtrak How many miles of track allow for 160 mph?

@Amtrak Pretty sure they're capable of up to 180, and could do 200 in a different configuration; 160 is just the max service speed Amtrak plans to run them at (for now)
