You can use charge + cancel charge + shield to block any incoming damage, in case your charge ends up somewhere, where you do NOT want to be. You seem to also be able to charge enemies off the map - without going off yourself (if timed correctly) as shown in the clip here. If used correctly you can 1 shot combo ANY HERO in the game.
