The GitHub Copilot CLI is wild. I've never built an iOS app before, but I wanted something that would store my TODO's as GitHub Issues. A few minutes later built it and then talked me through getting it deployed to my phone - INCLUDING setting up oauth login 🤯

Source is here, the app is still coming together how I want it and then will be pushing to TestFlight soon.

@martinwoodward, that's a fantastic use case, and the Copilot CLI simplifies app development significantly.

What's more impressive is how it handles edge cases, like when you try to create a new issue with a duplicate title, it still finds a way to make it work.

This is a very efficient way to develop, very cool.

Nice demo. Copilot CLI really speeds up end-to-end setup

From never built an iOS app to shipping one in minutes. The barrier to entry just collapsed into a conversation.

The oauth login is the worst part. if it gets that right, thats killer

Wow, this is a really cool use case! Do you use GitHub OAuth for authentication? Because if you share a repo with someone, would it be possible for them to also use the app and get access to the todos?

Client secrets injected at build time via actions, always keep the secrets out the checked in code. You can enable secret protection on the GitHub repo to prevent mistakes

Wrriting custom iOS apps is pretty addicting, but the deployment process to more than one person (ie my wife) is a nightmare. What a horrific ecosystem Mac devs have to deal with.

굿!! 어려운 기능은 아니지만 github Copilot cli라서 github api랑 궁합이 잘 맞나봐요. 키 관리 잘하세요

I know. It's bonkers. I learned Swift UI over Christmas thanks to cursor AI. It's incredible what I've built. #VideoBatch

@github It's wild that they have suspended my account on false accusations and refuse to give it back. Unbelievable.

9/10 of us who are engineers would never want our todos in git as issues

I'm waiting for the mac mini m5 to get out. I ordered two M4 but ended up returning them because of hardware issues.

Oh noooo!! Hope you get the shiny hardware soon, those M4's are beast but hadn't heard about the hardware issues in general.

Github coplilot lost for the other competitors; they lack important features and so on

Martin Woodward's profile picture
Martin Woodward9 months ago

Such as?

CaioCPS's profile picture
CaioCPS9 months ago

1- Concat the prompt with the Copilot command. Ex: copilot -p "bla bla bla" --no-security-guardrails true 2- flags to the copilot root command. If there are all those features, the docs need to be updated as soon as possible

Martin Woodward's profile picture
Martin Woodward9 months ago

-p / --prompt is there. --yolo is there Team are updating the README etc today in the repo, but copilot --help is def up to date. Anything else needed?

Well, I was wrong, thanks for the support. Not for now, thanks a lot.

No worries. Appreciate you taking the time to let us know you hadn't seen --yolo and things like -p. Raising awareness of it now.

I'm gonna do this today. What model did you use?

Martin Woodward's profile picture

I started with Opus 4.5 to do the plan and the initial implementation and then switched to Sonnet 4.5 once I was iterating.

With the /delegate option on the Copilot CLI and the fact we have Mac runners you can actually make pretty decent progress. Having to wait for a TestFlight build + deploy to install rather than pressing Cmd+R slows you down in the inner-loop though, esp as you don't get debug

Thanks for the feedback. I will give this a spin.
