Caitlyn, respectfully. You don’t know enough about transsexual history to make broad comments like this. This is from 1967. Yes, we existed though human history. We also tended not to live very long. You have no idea of the trauma that we go through. I literally in the NYT today talking about how this is overmedicalized for children, but please do not speak as though what happens to us in youth doesn’t break most of us for life. It’s cavalier, dehumanizing and factually inaccurate.

We were told to see Iran as recklessly blocking global oil flow, but reports showed that ships from African countries like South Africa, Gabon, and Liberia were still allowed through. What this shows is that the story was never as simple as the US and Israel tried to make it sound. If African vessels were still passing through, the narrative of a blanket blockade has clearly fallen apart, again exposing how often global narratives are shaped to serve Western powers at the expense of the truth.

IMF & WORLD BANK HAVE NOT HELPED AFRICA How can we trust institutions established during colonial times by the very forces that colonised us? This is the question posed by Fadhel Kaboub (Fadhel Kaboub فاضل قابوب on X), an associate professor of economics at Ohio's Denison University, who critiques global financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Despite their inclusive names, these institutions act as neo-colonial tools, deepening poverty and dependency in Africa and the Global South. After decades of so-called ‘aid,’ little progress has been made in Africa, while Western countries advance by exploiting its resources. For example, the foreign-backed proxy war over natural resources in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has lasted over 30 years. Instead of addressing exploitation, the World Bank supports projects like the Inga Dam, which critics say facilitate further resource extraction under the guise of aid. Western powers, led by the US and supported by Europe and the G7, control these institutions. They back initiatives like the Lobito Corridor, a 1,300-kilometre strip of land featuring a railway that snakes through Zambia, the DRC and Angola to ship Africa’s resources across the Atlantic Ocean. The World Bank also supported apartheid South Africa, a history it prefers to forget. Given that Africa pays out more in debt and resource extraction than it receives in aid, is it not time for the rest of the continent to reject these colonial-era models and pursue African-led development, like our siblings in the Sahel? Gabor Maté on what trauma actually is: Asked "how do you define trauma?", Gabor Maté offers a definition that reframes how most people understand the word. "Trauma is a wound. The important distinction to make is that trauma is not what happened to you. It's what happened inside of you as a result of what happened to you." He illustrates this with his own story: "My trauma wasn't that my mother gave me to a stranger. The trauma was the wound which is that I perceive myself as not wanted. I perceive myself as abandoned. Who gets abandoned? Somebody who doesn't deserve to be loved." That internal wound, he explains, then shapes an entire life: "So then I developed this sense of not being good enough, not being lovable enough. Now that means I spend much of my life trying to prove that I'm good, that I'm lovable, that I am important, which then drives all kinds of behaviors which then create more problems."
