“The gospel doesn’t require obedience, it produces it.” -Voddie Baucham 🥁💯🔥

Hi Chad. John 14:15: "If you love me, keep my commands." Does not say "I love you and force you to keep my commands." Romans 6:16: "Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?" Does not say that God chose you and made you a slave. But it does say that when you are a slave to God (for you will be a slave to someone), you need to obey. It says nothing about making you obey. (Or irresistibly drawing you to obedience; nothing about that there.) James 1:22: "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." We are to do what it says. It does not say that when you are saved, God will somehow get you to do what it says. Matthew 7:21: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." The one who "does the will of my Father" gets to heaven. Nowhere does it say that God will put obedience into you so that you will "do the will of my Father." It is your choice and your action. Acts 5:29: "Peter and the other apostles replied: 'We must obey God rather than human beings!'" This is our obedience: obey God. It is not forced. It is not created in us. We must willfully obey God and not the world. Our will. 1 John 2:3: "We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands." We keep his commands. I do know how this can be read backwards, as if keeping the commands is evidence of knowing him. But in biblical context of everything else above, no, it is us who need to keep his commands. This becomes easier under sanctification, but not perfect: we still sin. And it is this sin that shows that God has not created obedience in us, or else he has failed. God doesn't fail. No, he places upon us the action to "keep his commands."

Listen to scripture at

It freely gives it..without our having to lift a finger. In the finished work of Jesus.

Nope. Jesus demands the obedience. Even when a teaching isn’t clear (to you). That’s what Faith is. The supernatural virtue whereby man BELIEVES all that God has revealed. “If you love Me, you will keep my COMMAND-ments. Not the word - COMMAND. What He doesn’t command is understanding (as a necessity). Mary was confused and troubled about how the Angel Gabriel addressed Her. Peter had no idea what Jesus was talking about in Capernaum when He said “eat my flesh and drink my blood.” Jesus followers and the crowds were often perplexed - Jesus wasn’t looking for understating, He was commanding obedience. And as St. Paul tells us - He Himself was OBEDIENT even unto death; death on a cross.

True repentance is a promise of future obedience. God's promise is to forgive anyone who repents and returns to Him.

Jesus tells us to obey His commandments. That’s requiring obedience. Apparently yall don’t read your own bibles. Or understand logic.

You are all lost people applying passages that is to the lost sheep of Israel. 2 Timothy 2:15-16 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 (KJV) And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; Jesus command to follow apostle Paul which none of you do. What part of lost sheep of house of Israel do you not understand. John 4:22 (KJV) Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. Acts 9:15 (KJV) But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 1 Corinthians 4:16 (KJV) Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. 1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV) Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. Philippians 3:17-20 (KJV) Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 2 Corinthians 4:3-6 (KJV) But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Acts 20:24 (KJV) But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. Romans 2:16 (KJV) In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. Romans 16:25-26 (KJV) Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: 1 Corinthians 9:17 (KJV) For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. 1 Timothy 1:11 (KJV) According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. 2 Timothy 2:8 (KJV) Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

Obedience comes from a heart that falls in love with Jesus. It is a by-product of a heart sold out to whom it falls in love with. Sin or Jesus. No other choice.

When he says repentance, is he talking about repentance from unbelief in the Gospel, to belief/trust? If he's talking about repentance from sin, what's the difference between repentance from sin, and obedience? Are they not one and the same?

He’s not biblically accurate here. I like Voddie… but he’s wrong here for the sake of trying to be clever. Consider: “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”” -John 3:36 ““Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.” -Matthew 7:21 ““Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and fell against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. And everyone hearing these words of Mine and not doing them, may be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”” -Matthew 7:24-27 ““Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like:” -Luke 6:46-47 “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” -Romans 10:9-13

God commands repentance and faith and the only way to obey that command is to be born again by grace alone in Christ alone.
