Just now, the Supreme Court has put a stay on the definition of Aravalli Hills. So, that was one disaster created by the Modi government, which we have fortunately averted for now. But there is another major environmental disaster being created by the Modi government in the Great Nicobar Island, which is part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.

An American influencer recently shared a video of Riau province in Sumatra on social media, claiming, “This is what deforestation looks like from above.” While his intention was good, the footage actually shows an area after the harvesting of a monoculture pulpwood plantation. I know this because I was Sustainability MD of a large pulp and paper company for almost 15 years. The barren land is not a result of natural forest clearing; it was likely deforested and converted into plantation land by the company more than six years ago. We need to stop deforestation and work towards restoring the damaged ecosystem.

So, we are talking about a range of waste that is going to be separated. It's a project component with various infrastructures are going to be we started with the encapsulation,landfills ,water treatment plant and sorting plant. Now, this is the last leg of waste management, this waste handling plant. It's going to produce 16 to 22 megawatts of electricity, and it will be fed to the national grid.The work is going to commence this month. It's going to take 18 months. Under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Government is committed to completing the National Library Headquarters in Abuja. Over the past few months, the Federal Ministry of Education has held several meetings with members of the National Library team and its contractors to discuss the resumption of the project. The project, which was designed in 1981 and began construction in 2006, is the third (3rd) of three national monuments (the National Ecumenical Centre and the National Mosque) that has yet to be completed. This week, my team and I toured the project site with the CEO of the National Library, the project’s architect, and contractor to assess the progress made before construction paused in 2012. By June 2025, we will proceed with Phase 1 of the project, which will include the completion of Basement Levels 1 and 2, the Ground Floor, the Second Floor, and the building's external works and furnishings. Mr. President is deeply passionate about Nigeria’s human capital development, of which education is an integral part. The President has also instructed TETFund to allocate funding towards the project to ensure its resumption and completion. With a National Library, we can provide all Nigerians with a communal learning environment to help them grow and become their best selves.

Rahul Gandhi has done it AGAIN. The man with the perpetual passport in his pocket has landed in Great Nicobar, posed in front of a few trees, and produced yet another video designed for one purpose only. To sabotage a project of national, strategic and defence importance for India. This is not concern. This is a pattern. Every single project that strengthens India gets the same treatment from this man. Rafale was a scam. Vande Bharat was an insult. Chandrayaan was a stunt. The new Parliament was a coronation. CAA was anti Muslim. Sengol was theatre. Every road, every port, every airport, every defence deal that makes Bharat stronger becomes, in his vocabulary, a “scam” or a “crime.” Whose interests is he actually serving when he travels thousands of kilometres only to demoralise a project that sits at the doorstep of the Strait of Malacca, through which 30 percent of global maritime trade passes? Whose strategy is he advancing when he tries to block India’s answer to China’s String of Pearls, the very port that will end our dependence on Colombo and Singapore for transhipment? Now let us bring out the data Rahul Gandhi will never put in his videos. The total area of Great Nicobar Island is around 910 square kilometres. Out of this, 853 square kilometres, that is 92 percent of the entire island, is constitutionally protected as Tribal Reserve under the 1956 regulation. The project footprint is 166 square kilometres. That is roughly 18 percent of the island, and the tribal reserve remains overwhelmingly intact. The tribal population Rahul Gandhi is suddenly weeping for is approximately 1,200. The Shompen, around 200. The Nicobarese, around 1,000. Eight hundred square kilometres of pristine, protected forest stays exclusively reserved for them. Untouched. Guaranteed by law. And here comes the inconvenient truth that destroys his entire video. The Tribal Council itself has issued a No Objection Certificate to the Government of India. The very communities Rahul Gandhi claims to speak for have already given written consent. The Gram Sabhas have passed resolutions. Yet this man parachutes in from Delhi, ignores the actual voice of the actual tribals on the actual ground, and decides HE will speak for them in English on Twitter for his foreign audience. Why English, Rahul ji? Why is the video tailored for international consumption? Why does every Congress attack on a strategic Indian project get amplified by the exact same Western NGOs and Survival International style outfits that have a track record of stopping infrastructure in developing countries while remaining suspiciously silent about Chinese ports in Hambantota and Gwadar? The pattern is too consistent to be coincidence. When India built Sela Tunnel, he was missing. When China built villages inside Arunachal, he was silent. An airport here means our Navy and Air Force project power into the Indo Pacific. A township here means India finally populates and secures a territory that was nearly lost in 2004. This is exactly why someone, somewhere, wants this project killed. And Rahul Gandhi has volunteered, as always, to be the loudest voice for that someone. 1,200 tribals have said yes. 140 crore Indians want this project. The Supreme Court appointed committee has cleared it. The NGT has cleared it. The Environment Ministry has cleared it. Only one man stands in the way, video camera in hand, lecturing the nation from a forest he visited for the first time in his life. Bharat knows this script by heart now. I visited the southernmost tip of India. I stood at Indira Point. I walked under trees that have stood for centuries. I dove into coral reefs among the most vibrant on earth. And I sat with the people who live there. Tribal communities, whose land is being taken away by violating the Forest Rights Act. Settlers, many of them former soldiers, placed on these islands by the Indian government, who aren’t getting fair compensation. The Modi government and BJP tells you Great Nicobar Project is about defence. It is not. Expand INS Baaz - we will back the government fully. The Navy has been asking for expansion for five years - it has been ignored. They tell you it is about a transhipment port. It is not. India is already building one in Kerala, which is on the mainland. What it actually is: 1.5 crore trees felled. Coral reefs erased from official maps. Soldiers and tribals displaced - so one businessman can build hotels and casinos on India’s most irreplaceable ecological land. Every young Indian I have spoken to understands this. You know that no amount of profit is worth destroying what can never be recovered. I stand for ecologically balanced development. This is again a project of an unfathomable scale that's just been completed in China and barely anyone has heard of it in the rest of the world China has just finished constructing a continuous 3,046-kilometer (1,892-mile) green barrier - made of plants and trees - completely encircling the Taklamakan Desert, the world's second-largest shifting sand desert which is about the size of Germany (!). To put this in perspective, this is like building a living wall from Paris to Istanbul, or from Los Angeles to Chicago – except they built it in one of the world's most inhospitable environments. They spent about 40 years building this "green wall". The final 285 kilometers was completed in 2024 on November 28. They built the "wall" with desert-hardy plants like Populus euphratica (desert poplar), Haloxylon (saxaul), and Tamarix (salt cedar), along with innovative sand-control engineering and solar panel installations. The objective of the project is to contain the desert's expansion and to protect surrounding agricultural areas and cities from sandstorms. Before this project, many towns in the region had to be relocated multiple times due to encroaching sand. For instance, the town of Qira in Xinjiang had to move three times in its history, with sand dunes once approaching as close as 1.5 kilometers from the town center. This is easily one of human history's most ambitious and grandest ecological engineering projects. It's insane when you think about it: completely containing a desert the size of Germany! And it's also insane how little attention this has received globally: sadly we've apparently lost the capacity to be impressed by such a project, let alone have the boldness of vision to conceive of one ourselves. All resulting in the fact that whilst China is out there completing 40-year missions to tame entire deserts, we can barely fix potholes in our roads.
