🇺🇸 The Gulf warned exactly how this war would unfold, down to the desalination plants and civilian ports now taking hits. Giorgio Cafiero, CEO of Gulf State Analytics, says Trump's closest regional partners told him precisely what was coming, and every warning went unheeded. "The Gulf Arab states said... show more

🇺🇸 For the first time in history, a sitting U.S. president threatened military action against a Gulf state living under America's own security umbrella. Gulf security analyst Giorgio Cafiero says the significance of that moment is hard to overstate, because the entire GCC relationship was built on protection in exchange for partnership, and that foundation just cracked in public. "First time a US president has threatened military action against the GCC states." The country on the receiving end of the pressure happens to be the same one quietly keeping diplomacy alive between Washington and Tehran. Threatening your own mediator is a bold strategy. Russia FM Lavrov dismantled the Bahrain UN resolution on the Strait of Hormuz The resolution authorizes "all interested states" to take "all necessary defensive measures" in the Strait. But who decides what's proportionate? The same states authorized to act. "We know how our Western colleagues handled supposedly defensive Security Council decisions -- they turned them upside down and used them for aggression." These measures would also operate on the territory of Gulf coastal states who have no say in them. "A direct violation of their sovereignty." Then he uses Trump's own words against it. Trump said days ago that once military operations end, Hormuz navigation resumes normally. Lavrov: "So the problem isn't making demands of Iran -- stop the military operations." China is telling Gulf partners the exact same thing. Stop the war, navigation returns. The resolution doesn't even acknowledge Iran was attacked first. Pushing it through "in the midst of what the United States itself calls negotiations" will antagonize Tehran. So either someone wants to blow up whatever diplomatic process exists -- or the talk of negotiations is cover for another attack, "as happened in June last year and February this year." In that case, this resolution is retroactive legitimization of aggression. On Article 51: the US attacked Iran and called it "preventive self-defense" even though Iran never attacked them. Now Gulf states invoke the same logic. But Article 51 doesn't require a Security Council resolution. Gulf states can already act under it. So why push for one? Because this was never about self-defense -- it's about legitimizing future aggression. Lavrov says he asked Gulf leaders directly on a video call: "Did Iran actually attack you?" No. But they told him Iran has wanted to attack its neighbors for 70 years, and now that the US and Israel struck first, Iran seized the opportunity. That's the argument being used to authorize military force through the UN Security Council

🇺🇸🇮🇷 The same logic that gutted European economies could now be pointed straight at the Gulf. Alex Christoforou draws the parallel, and the picture is brutal. Europe sacrificed its industry, its energy security, and its growth for Washington's wars, and he says the Gulf states are watching the same script open on their own economies: "The purpose of a vassal is to be sacrificed at the feet of the empire, which is exactly what the Europeans are doing." If he's right, the Gulf capitals absorbing Iranian missiles for American bases are simply next in line. Alex Christoforou

Because they have zero trust in US backing. This is your fucking war, not ours. You guys kicked this off without consulting the Gulf because you knew damn well they’d be the ones absorbing the shock. The US bent over backwards to protect Israel's airspace but left the Gulf completely out to dry. Why would the region trust the US right now? You guys did absolutely nothing after the 2019 Aramco attacks, and everyone saw how the US completely sold out the Kurds. The Gulf spent years doing the diplomatic legwork, like the China-brokered peace deal, to cool tensions with Iran specifically to avoid this exact scenario. They didn't start this mess, so they’re strictly playing defense to protect their own borders and airspace. You guys sparked the fire, and now you're mad they won't burn their own house down for you. The US expects the Gulf to be a human shield while doing the bare minimum to actually protect them from the fallout. Make it make sense.

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 The Gulf states are being told their security now depends on walking away from America... Fmr U.S. Navy intel officer Malcolm Nance lays out just how thoroughly Iran rewrote the regional order. The Gulf states are absorbing a brutal new message, that their security may hinge on putting distance between themselves and Washington, and Nance says it's actually landing: "The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Donald Trump pays up. We're paying up." The bigger picture is what stings. By surviving this war and forcing America to pay up, Iran walked away having reshaped the entire balance of power in the region. Malcolm Nance

President Donald Trump's "AI and crypto tzar" David Sacks said: "This is a good time to declare victory and get out." But he's noticed a problem: "A faction of people, largely but not exclusively in the Republican Party, want to escalate the war" because they want Iran's government completely replaced, not just weakened. What happens if they continue the war with Iran: "If [Iran's] oil and gas infrastructure gets hit, they've already said they're going to engage in tit-for-tat retaliation against the Gulf States... The Iranians already blew up this giant oil depot in Oman." Then they'll target desalination plants: "~100 million people on the Arabian Peninsula get their water from desal. It's basically a desert. Those desal plants are soft targets... If you see that type of destruction continue, you could literally render the Gulf almost uninhabitable... eventually if this war continues for weeks or months, Israel could just be destroyed."

🚨WAR ON IRAN: ‘The Gulf States were not neutral. We lobbied very hard to STOP this war.’ ‘The US’🇺🇸 Gulf bases and attacks on Gulf States are part of the picture, but that’s not the complete part of the picture. The reason being is because I think Iran made it very clear that the overarching strategy is to raise the cost of the war, to globalise the response… and make sure that the United States will start to feel some of the pressure and therefore scale down their operation. 🚨 I WARNED YOU. 4 DAYS AGO I TOLD YOU EXACTLY WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. I said the US bombing a water plant on Qeshm Island would open a door that CANNOT be closed. I said Iran would consider ALL civilian infrastructure fair game. I said every desalination plant in the Gulf just became a target. Now look at what just happened: – Iran's FM just confirmed ANOTHER US strike damaged a desalination plant on Qeshm Island – Water is now cut off to 30 MORE villages – This is no longer an isolated incident. It's a PATTERN. – The US is systematically targeting water infrastructure – Saudi Arabia gets 70% of its drinking water from desalination – UAE gets 90% – Qatar gets almost 100% Iran hasn't hit a Gulf desalination plant yet. YET. But every strike on Iranian water infrastructure gives them the justification to do exactly that. One strike on a Saudi or UAE desalination facility and MILLIONS of people have no drinking water within 72 hours. The US isn't just fighting Iran. They're creating the conditions for the worst humanitarian crisis the Gulf has EVER seen. I told you this 4 days ago. Nobody listened. They're listening now.

🚨IRGC TERRORISTS ARE THREATENING ALL-OUT WAR ON AMERICA! 🇺🇸🇮🇷 Even if the Iran war ends tomorrow, the old Middle East isn’t coming back. Professor Fawaz Gerges thinks the war has fundamentally changed how America’s Gulf allies think about their own security. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and others spent decades building around one assumption: When things became truly dangerous, the United States would be there. Gerges argues that assumption has now been badly shaken. Gulf governments watched Washington coordinate the Iran war with Israel while, according to Gerges, leaving its Arab allies outside the decision-making process. When the regional consequences arrived, they began looking elsewhere for additional protection. Not necessarily instead of America. Alongside it. Saudi Arabia is building deeper security relationships with Turkey and Pakistan. Gulf states are exploring ties with Egypt, China, India and other powers. That is why Gerges thinks even a U.S.-Iran agreement cannot simply reset the region. “The Gulf will never be the same.” America can end a war. Rebuilding the assumption that only America can guarantee Gulf security may be considerably harder. Fawaz Gerges

‘Iran has done ENORMOUS DAMAGE to the US military with strikes on American bases in the Middle East.’ —Doug Bandow, Former Special Assistant to President Reagan ‘It’s terrible that they're striking the Gulf States, of course, because the Gulf states have not initiated combat. I don't think I was surprised simply because Iran views them as being vulnerable and frankly, Iran views them probably as being the only target that's likely to make a real difference on the United States. Hitting the bases has done enormous harm to the US military. That can be viewed as direct retaliation in terms of the US government and then hitting the Gulf states there, trying to get the Gulf states to tell the US to end this. So it's a tactic that I'm not surprised about. I think that it's wrong. You're hitting people who did not hit you. But look, the way this war has gone, the US went after them twice in the middle of negotiations, launched an aggressive war. I'm not surprised that Iran has basically said all of the rules are out the window. And tragically, the Gulf states are targets in this.’ Watch the full interview in the quoted post below 👇 Doug Bandow

🚨 WATER WARS: WHY DESALINATION PLANTS ARE THE GULF’S LIFELINE When missiles fly in the Middle East, people usually think of oil fields, pipelines, or military bases, but in the Gulf, there is another target that may be even more critical, water. The Iranian drone strike on a Bahraini desalination plant, and Iran’s claim that the U.S. targeted a similar facility on Qeshm Island, signals a dangerous new phase in the war. Because in the Gulf, desalination plants are essential for survival. Unlike most regions of the world, the Gulf has almost no natural freshwater. Rainfall is scarce, rivers are nonexistent, and groundwater reserves are limited and rapidly depleting. So Gulf states turned to the sea. Today, massive desalination plants pull salt from seawater and convert it into drinkable water for cities, industries, and agriculture. Without them, daily life across the region would collapse almost overnight. The Gulf Cooperation Council countries control roughly 60% of the world’s desalination capacity and produce about 40% of all desalinated water globally. More than 400 desalination plants operate across the region, quietly supplying the water that keeps cities running. In Kuwait, about 90% of drinking water comes from desalination. In Oman, it’s 86%. Even the United Arab Emirates, with one of the most advanced infrastructure systems on the planet, gets about 42% of its drinking water from the sea. That’s what makes attacks on these facilities so alarming. Unlike oil infrastructure, which affects markets and government revenue, desalination plants affect people immediately. Take out a refinery and the economy suffers. Take out a desalination plant and millions could lose access to drinking water. Energy infrastructure has always been part of regional conflict, but targeting water infrastructure raises the stakes dramatically.

In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi warned that any US attack on Iran’s critical infrastructure could trigger a far-reaching regional escalation, urging Gulf states to prevent the United States from using their territory for further aggression. Recalling Iran’s response during the previous 40-day war after US and Israeli strikes on Iran’s South Pars gas fields, Marandi said, "Iran’s response will be immediate, and it will be far greater than anything that the United States can do against Iran." He warned that regional states hosting US military assets should reconsider their position, stating that "all of the assets of these regimes in the region are right in front of Iran" and that Tehran could strike them without relying on long-range missiles. Marandi added that if Washington targets Iranian infrastructure, "Iran can take out everything," warning that any resulting crisis would leave regional governments responsible because "the Americans are using their airspace, they’re using their territory, and these regimes are fully responsible." 🇺🇸 The American security umbrella the Gulf states built their defense around turned out to be the thing drawing the fire. David Pyne, former U.S. Army officer, argues Iran's missile arsenal far exceeded anything U.S. intelligence reported, and the war exposed a truth nobody in Washington wants said out loud: America cannot actually defend its partners from it: "Being a security partner of the United States poses a greater risk to their security than being allies with us, because we just don't have the military capabilities in terms of missile defense to deter and defend against Iranian missile strikes." The Gulf is doing the math, and the answer keeps coming back the same way. David Pyne 🇺🇸
