The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two Hillsborough County Public Schools bus employees following a child abuse investigation. On November 14, 2025, deputies began investigating after a witness reported a bus aide, Juanita Wright, 79, striking a 10 year old student on a school bus parked at Caminiti... Exceptional School. The child is diagnosed with Autism and ADHD and is minimally verbal. Detectives reviewed video footage showing the bus aide repeatedly abusing the child on multiple days while the bus driver, Tonya Rice-Constant, laughed during the abuse. On January 26, 2026, Wright and Rice-Constant were arrested. “This case goes far beyond abuse. It reveals a level of cruelty that is deeply disturbing,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “A defenseless child was physically abused by someone entrusted with their care, while another adult failed to intervene and instead laughed. A Littleton school bus assistant repeatedly abused at least two severely disabled boys during trips to and from a school for kids with autism and developmental disabilities, police said, and they fear there could be additional victims. Kiarra Jones, 29, has been charged with a low-level felony on assault charges and has posted a bond at the Arapahoe County Jail. Police said in her seven-month tenure as an assistant on a school bus for kids with special needs, she hit and physically abused at least two children by pulling their hair, elbowing them in the face, stomach, and back, and flicking their faces. Neither of the boys can talk, but both were crying during the bus ride, police documents said. Parents of the boys said police told them they believe her abuse was systemic and frequent and there are likely more victims. Thank God for Mama Bears like this lady! A 5 year-old boy in Las Vegas, who didn’t speak English was told by his parents to get on his school bus when his alarm went off. Unfortunately, he boarded a city bus instead. This lady, finding it odd for such a young child to ride alone, asked the bus driver if the boy rode the bus every day. The driver told her that children under five ride for free and she should sit down and shut up. Mama Bear and other concerned women didn’t accept it. The lady ended up calling the cops to report that the boy was riding a two-hour city bus route by himself. According to RTC children 5 years of age and younger ride free and MUST be accompanied by an adult. I don’t care where who you are but if you are willing to put your child at risk, you are POS and should be arrested for neglect.

On August 16, 2026, at 8:35 p.m., #teamHCSO responded to a 7-Eleven on Gordon Road in Riverview after an 11-year-old child crashed a vehicle into a concrete traffic barrier. Deputies learned that Carribean Myers, 41, allowed her 11-year-old child with autism, while under her supervision and as a passenger, to drive the vehicle from their residence to the gas station. While attempting to stop, the child mistook the gas pedal for the brake and crashed into the barrier. No one was injured. Myers was arrested and faces charges, including Child Abuse. “Putting an 11-year-old behind the wheel is reckless and could have ended in tragedy,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This mother made a dangerous decision that put her child and everyone around them at risk. Parents have a responsibility to protect their children, not place them in situations that could get them or someone else seriously hurt.
