Last night, August 5, 2026, shortly after 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to a welfare check in the 2900 block of Hope Valley Street in unincorporated West Palm Beach. There, deputies encountered the suspect engaged in a physical struggle with his mother and father while armed with a kitchen knife. Deputies repeatedly issued verbal commands for he to drop the knife; however, he refused to comply and continued fighting with his father while remaining armed. In an effort to de-escalate the situation, a deputy deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective. Despite repeated commands to drop the knife the suspect continued the violent altercation while still holding the knife, a deputy discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect in the torso. Deputies immediately rendered medical aid until Palm Beach County Fire Rescue arrived. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away. In accordance with standard agency protocol, the deputies have been placed on administrative leave. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and PBSO’s Violent Crimes Division are investigating the incident.

According to Omaha police, the suspect approached a woman and her child inside the store while armed with a knife, then forced the woman to walk ahead of her shopping cart as she took control of the child. The suspect followed the woman out of the store and into the parking lot. Officers responded to the scene around a.m., according to Deputy Chief Scott Gray. When police arrived, they found the suspect outside holding a knife to the child, who was sitting in the cart. As officers attempted to negotiate, the suspect cut the boy across the face. Police then opened fire, killing the suspect.

On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at approximately 10:00 am, our Communications Center received a call of a battered and bloody woman screaming for help in the 2200 block of Zinfandel Drive in Rancho Cordova. As deputies were on their way, additional 9-1-1 calls came in as the woman went door to door attempting to get help. Fortunately, one residence allowed the victim inside to wait for responding deputies. Deputies contacted the victim, who described surviving three days of brutal beatings from her ex-husband. She said she was beaten, pistol-whipped, and strangled until she lost consciousness. Another vicious beating occurred that morning. The victim described how she “played dead” until the suspect left the room. That allowed her to flee the home and seek help. The victim stated she did not know where the suspect might be, but assumed he would still be at her residence where the beatings had occurred. She made sure to remind the deputies that the suspect had a pistol and was always armed. Deputies went to the victim’s residence. The suspect was no longer at the location, and the victim’s vehicle was missing. Deputies put out a BOLO (be on the lookout) for the vehicle to all neighboring jurisdictions. North Patrol Deputies located the vehicle on Fair Oaks Blvd near the intersection of Kenneth Ave. Deputies attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, but the suspect fled, initiating a pursuit. The pursuit eventually traveled onto eastbound I-80, where an officer-involved shooting occurred just west of the Antelope Road exit. Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and their property. I am so proud of my deputies who responded quickly and didn’t give up until this suspect was in custody.”

On December 26, 2025, deputies from our felony unit were in the 2200 block of Buchanan Bay Circle doing surveillance of a homicide suspect so they could serve a DNA search warrant in a murder that happened on Christmas Eve. While deputies were surveilling the residence, two men – the homicide suspect and another man - came out and the second man opened fire on deputies, striking one of our unmarked vehicles. One deputy returned fire, striking the 20-year-old shooter. Deputies rendered aid until paramedics were able to get to the scene and transport the man to the hospital, where he is undergoing surgery tonight. He will face charges for shooting at our deputies. The suspect in our homicide case – who was also armed with a handgun – was detained and was being questioned by our detectives late this evening.
