50 Cent reveals Ghost was almost killed off years earlier in Power 50 Cent: I didn’t mind killing Kanan when the time came. It got awkward for the writer, for the showrunner, because she felt like it was registering as a 50 Cent show instead of her show. It also was friction between her and Omari, because he was feeling like he was the lead and the star of the show. Omari would’ve died, Ghost must die. He would’ve died when Kanan died, she planned to kill Omari’s character off right there. I’m like, “Nah.” I could feel how the general public was feeling, and I knew that was not the right decision. She said, “If he doesn’t die, something has to happen. Something big has to happen.” I’m like, “Me. Kill my character. I got other shit to do. I want to be the best I can at everything. Marriage, parenting, friendship, being a son, work; all of those buckets matter to me. I want to pour into them with every ounce of what I have to offer, but then what’s left for me? On the flip side I feel selfish for even asking that question, because if those things fill you then it should be ok if you’re too empty for yourself at the end of the day. I haven’t thought about death much until recently. Maybe because I know it’s inevitable. Maybe it’s because I have an incessant need for everyone to be ok and I just want to be here to make it happen, but it’s my reality. It’s my job to take care of it all.
