What he described isn't new in Chinese governance. It's been like this for thousands of years since the first emperor. They knew capital shouldn't be involved in governance because of its ruthless nature.

While America is a capitalist economy, in political terms it is an oligarchy. Americans are led to believe that they are a democracy because they can choose between 2 parties every 4 yrs. But they can't choose the policies as they are predetermined by the oligarchs, MIC and AIPAC

I agree, but there are other differences too. America is a warfare state, and China is not. We have a history of regime change/coup d'etas in other countries to product large corporate interests in America, that is to say, protect the interests of the really rich people in America. Also we have a history of domestic assassinations (think of JFK 1963, Malcolm X 1965, MLK and RFK 1968.) All of these people were against war in Vietnam and were into peaceful solutions. They were dealt with accordingly. They were replaced with a 'more compatible Left' that is 100% on board with endless wars and proxy wars. That's why there is a continuity in our foreign policy no matter if a R or a D is in the White House. China has a culture of learning and America is the opposite. The children who are good students in America aren't the popular ones in class, and god forbid if you are a kid who was a voracious bookworm like myself. No one could understand why I liked reading.

I love this part: "...capital does not rise above political authority" I bet @lessig has a word or two to say about that in America.

In capitalism, assets have value. People do not. That is why it is called "capitalism." If people had more value than assets, it would be called a dictatorship of the proletariate. If there were no private property, there would be no assets, & we'd have true socialism.

This makes sense. The capitalist mode of production clearly operates in the PRC, but capitalists cannot exercise political power through party funding. But an obvious problem seems to be that the working class can’t do this independent of the state, either.
