Modi's vanity project turns into a Ghost House The Surat Diamond Bourse, showcased as the world’s largest office building, was built at a staggering cost of ₹3,200 crore, covering an area of 7.1 million square feet. With a capacity for 4,500 offices, the plan was to have 1,000 diamond companies operating out of the complex by this Diwali. However, as of now, only 8 companies are functioning from here. Diamond traders from Surat and Mumbai were pressured into shifting to the SDB, and though a few initially moved, many returned to Mumbai after facing difficulties. Modi seems to believe that building flashy structures is the essence of development, assuming everything else will fall into place.
