UPDATE: In a major escalation, Israeli drones have assassinated a Lebanese army commander general today while he was heading to his base in Marje'youn, South Lebanon. The strike happened before Khardali point, right where the Lebanese army rediculously suggested coordinating with Israeli army in a piloting zone on dismantling Hezbollah weapons. Yesterday, this Leb Army General was in charge of the army forces that took control over Debbine after Israeli withdrawal, and sent them without their weapons. Last week, Israeli drones killed a Christian family with their daughter on the same road, heading to their home in Marje'youn. This happened after yesterday's interview with pro american president Joe Aoun, with Christian Amanpour, when he rediculously agreed than there are "no hostile intentions between Lebanon and Israel", and after blaming Iran and Hezbollah for the atrocities committed by Israel in Lebanon and failing to mention that Israel is killing and attacking people and occupying parts of South Lebanon. What a pathetic situation!

Despite the statements published today in Lebanon, the facts remain that extensive Hezbollah military infrastructure still exists south of the Litani River. The goal of disarming Hezbollah in southern Lebanon remains far from being achieved. This can be seen in the attached video. Israel acknowledges the decision of the Lebanese government to address the disarmament of Hezbollah and some of the efforts the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) have made in this context. Nevertheless, these efforts are limited. Hezbollah continues to rearm with the support of Iran, whose foreign minister is arriving today for a visit to Lebanon. Hezbollah is rearming faster than it is being disarmed. Furthermore, it is regrettable that there are instances of cooperation between elements within the LAF and Hezbollah. It should be emphasized that the IDF's strikes against Hezbollah do not delay the goal of disarming the organization - on the contrary, they advance it. If Washington and Tehran can now move toward a regional ceasefire framework, including Lebanon, then what exactly was the Lebanese government doing while Israel was bombing the south, destroying towns, occupying Lebanese land, and speaking openly about future expansion and building settlements? Lebanese officials openly admitted that Lebanon has neither military power nor economic power to negotiate with Israel, so their strategy is to go to Washington, cry to the Americans, and ask them to pressure Israel. Sorry, but this is beyond parody. This is why many Lebanese consider the attempt to disarm Hezbollah under such circumstances as a national suicide. Whether one agrees with Hezbollah’s ideology or not, the reality on the ground is simple: it remains the only force capable of imposing a military cost on the Israeli occupation forces stationed inside Lebanon. And now, with the U.S.-Iran deal putting Lebanon at the center of the regional equation, the Lebanese government looks even more exposed. We have a 45-day ceasefire. We’ve had weekly meetings now and ongoing daily engagements between the government of Lebanon and Israel. The problem is not Lebanon and Israel. The problem is Hezbollah. Just last night Hezbollah put out a statement calling for the overthrow of the Lebanese government. And it just reminds you who you’re dealing with here - by the way, an Iranian proxy, 100% Iranian proxy. And as long as an armed Hezbollah exists, it’s going to be hard to achieve peace in Lebanon because they’re victimizing the people of Lebanon. They’re not just attacking Israel. But we’re working that track with the Lebanese government and the Israeli government. And we’ve made some good progress there - an extended ceasefire, a path forward. We’re going to continue to work on that. Hezbollah is a terrorist group.” Question: "Would it be an understanding that Israel wouldn’t strike Lebanon as part of the deal?” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio: "Well, Israel always has a right to protect itself. The question is not whether Lebanon wants to disarm Hezbollah, most Lebanese do, the question is whether doing so causes more harm than good.
