The widely used Mercator map falsely exaggerates the size northern hemisphere by inaccurately boosting the sizes of North America, Greenland, Northern Europe, and Russia. Accurate ones show the world as it really is. The change proposed by Togo, was popular, with 165 countries voting on it. Of those, 164 voted in favor, and just one—the United States—voted against.
