A flash on the Moon! 🌕 Japanese astronomer Daichi Fujii captured a flash on the unlit side of the Moon. In the absence of an atmosphere, objects travel unimpeded to our satellite's surface; upon impact, they trigger such flashes. These are clearly visible in the shadows, as the illuminated side is extremely bright. 🪐

Video from the asteroid! In 2018, the Hayabusa-2 spacecraft deployed small rovers onto the surface of the asteroid Ryugu. This is a sequence of 15 frames captured by Rover-1B. As the asteroid rotates, the position of the Sun and the surface lighting change. The video spans a period of one hour and 14 minutes.

The spacecraft visited the asteroid to refine the calculation of its orbit through the year 2300 and to collect surface samples. 🛰️☝️ Refining Bennu's orbit revealed that a collision with Earth could occur on September 24, 2182, with a probability of 0.04%.
