not quite right. It was an aberration, that rose after WWII because of very specific post war conditions that cannot be duplicated. in fact, it only lasted for about 15-20 years. remember, it started with the GI bill that gave loans to the returning solders.

The Western world has effectively been running up the credit card bill to give the illusion of wealth. Be interesting when the bill comes due. Though the credit card might of tide us over just long enough for the advent of AI and robotics to pay the bill. Guess we will find out.
