🇬🇭 🇨🇳 A Ghanaian man has reportedly died after being assaulted by Chinese nationals at a mining site in Amenfi West in the Western Region. According to the Assembly Member for the area, the victim went to the site to get diesel when he was allegedly attacked by security personnel and some Chinese workers at the site. Following the incident, angry community members stormed the galamsey site and set fire to two excavators as well as parts of the site in retaliation. As of now, the Chinese nationals are reported to have fled the area, while tensions remain high.

The youth of Sefwi Akontombra in the Western Region protested against illegal mining activities led by Chinese operators in their community. They set fire to the equipment and structures used for mining on-site. The youth expressed frustration with the extensive land degradation and pollution of water bodies, which they believe endanger the community and its future. However, 6 gunshots were fired and 3 people were injured during the process.

🇵🇸 Gaza engineers salvage damaged medical equipment to keep hospitals running In the face of crumbling medical equipment, teams of engineers in Gaza have resorted to salvaging parts from damaged machinery and refitting them in a desperate attempt to repair what they can and restore some functionality to various medical devices. “We now collect equipment damaged during the [Israeli] ground incursion and the bombing of the hospital. We collect them, dismantle matching equipment of the same type, salvage and repair the parts, and then reassemble the equipment,” Ahmed Younis, an engineer at Al-Shifa Hospital told Drop Site. “We have managed to restore only around 15% of the hospital’s equipment. Most of the equipment needs to be replaced and is difficult to repair under the current conditions.” “But the equipment is not operating at the level of efficiency it is supposed to,” he warned. “The MRI machines and other radiology equipment, such as CT scanners and lithotripsy machines, were completely destroyed.” The lack of functional diagnostic equipment has severely impaired doctors’ abilities to treat patients in Gaza. “This has resulted in severe complications and, in some cases, patients have lost their lives because we were unable to determine the correct diagnosis,” Dr. Mohammed Amin Matar, the head of the radiology department at Al-Shifa, told Drop Site.
