I strongly condemn the raids being conducted by the Bhagwant Mann government to detain the state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) along with other farmer leaders from their homes. This is a blatant violation of democratic rights. The Aam Aadmi Party, which itself emerged from protests and movements, is today resorting to authoritarian methods to crush every democratic demonstration instead of finding solutions to people’s issues. I reiterate that it is imperative that the Speaker of The House be independent and all actions are rooted in integrity and transparency. These efforts to mislead the public and to make it appear as if I was not being truthful about the tabling of the Auditor General’s reports have led to even more confusion. Instead of passing blame and seeking to reprimand others, the Speaker should focus on her duties.

It is ironic that even while I am speaking about how the Government is preparing itself to face unexpected events, including supply chain disruptions and issues related to LPG, the Opposition is not willing to listen to the reply. Instead, they prefer to pursue their own agenda. I would like to make it clear that because of developments taking place abroad, several challenges are emerging for our country. The question before us is how we should face these challenges, how we should arrange the necessary funds to deal with them, and how we should remain prepared. When the Government is taking many such steps to ensure preparedness, it is unfortunate that the Opposition, instead of standing together in the interest of the nation and giving confidence to the people, is taking irresponsible positions. He said that if the Nigerian government is truly serious about ending terrorism & insecurity, then President Bola Ahmed Tinubu & every state governor should send their own children to the battlefield. Local sources tell us Romanian gypsies have said there’s 6000 of them and if the kids aren't back by tomorrow, they are going to kick off and they said it’ll be that bad it will be spoke about for the next 100 years. I expect the local council to bow down give the children back, even if they're in danger. Under any real government, trucks would be waiting to round them up and deport!

Sickening. This is downright disgusting. Really not doing teachers any favours. I know so many great ones but this is horrible. These teachers are “protesting” and striking during Mock Exams. Draped in Palestinian Keffiyehs and Flags laughing at the kids that are begging them to go back to teaching them. The kids are quite literally shouting through a megaphone to come back and teach them before their exams. But no .. because “Gaza” Should be ashamed of themselves. These kids deserve better. What the hell has happened to this country?!?

After today’s press conference with Jason Schilling and the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA), we continue to be extremely disappointed by the lack of clarity from union leadership. Instead of providing the answers Albertans deserve, the ATA shifted positions, were dodgy about the terms of their own demands, and would not commit to keeping children in school next week. Albertans deserve straight answers: will our kids have their education disrupted in the coming weeks? Teachers, parents and students are being left in limbo without stability. Alberta’s children deserve certainty.

Today I gave evidence on teacher recruitment and retention to the Education Select Committee, followed by an appearance on Politics Live. So how is the government doing on its pledge to recruit 6,500 teachers? The headline is this: we have 2,500 more special and secondary teachers - but 3,000 fewer primary teachers. Overall, there are now fewer teachers in the system. What does that mean in practice? England’s student/teacher ratio is now among the highest in the OECD. What needs to change? We need proper funding and sustained investment. Teaching workloads must be compatible with family life, and pay needs to be corrected to reflect the profession’s value. But there’s more. Teaching is a predominantly female profession, and government policy should finally recognise that reality. A coherent set of policies on menopause, endometriosis and maternity is long overdue. Matching educator maternity pay to that of DfE civil servants (28 weeks’ full pay) would be a good place to start.

UNLV starting QB Matthew Sluka just decided to redshirt the rest of the season because of an NIL dispute between him and his agent with the school. Both sides are pointing the finger at each other instead of pointing the thumb back at themselves. If you promise to pay a student athlete NIL money and get them to commit to your school, YOU SHOULD PAY THEM WHAT YOU PROMISED. If a student athlete agrees to a NIL deal and commits to play at a school, THEY SHOULD HONOR THAT AGREEMENT. THERE SHOULD BE NO in season renegotiating of NIL deals just because a player played a few good games or made a few splash plays against a rival. Renegotiate in the offseason. If UNLV didn’t pay Sluka what was agreed they are wrong and exploiting student athletes. If UNLV did pay Sluka what was agreed and Sluka wanted more after beating Houston, Kansas and positioning UNLV in prime position to make the College Football Playoff if they continue the path they are, then Sluka and his agent are wrong. Nevertheless, my advice for Matthew Sluka would be to reverse course and play out the rest of the season. Why? For his teammates. That brotherhood is worth it. The bonds built and excitement they have built together is worth it. You won’t get this opportunity to lead a team like UNLV to the CFP again. Go play young man and sue the university after the season whether you make the CFP or not if they didn’t pay you what was agreed upon. If you make the CFP, the school will have even more money made off the backs of you and your teammates. It strengthens your case in the court of law and in the court of public opinion. So go play young man. And let the adults in the room handle the business off the field even if they are acting like children. Go be with your teammates and have fun playing this beautiful game.
