Honestly if someone was that smooth, I'd say you're fine to not carry with one in the chamber, 1.37 is absolutely fine response time. That said, I imagine anyone this skilled and confident won't have issue carrying one in the chamber.

In a controlled situation, prepared and highly practiced in this situation. Now, let someone charge you in the dark, while carrying groceries, and it's raining. Good luck.

It takes almost no time to chamber a round that’s why I don’t leave any firearms racked and ready. That’s when mistakes happen. Plus I’m not in a western drawing on some dude at high noon

What’s more likely to happen in your lifetime? Not being able to rack your slide when needed or an unintentional discharge? For normal everyday life I don’t chamber. If I’m going to be going to/through a more dangerous area then I chamber.

Depends - are you deployed and your dependent on your side arm while out hunting the bad in the world, or are you driving your kids to school and ballet class. Environment determine the most prudent method.

What's the chamber for? If not to carry a round?

Now do that in an actual life threatening situation when you’re caught by surprise.

Who says that you will always have your left hand available to rack the slide when you need to draw and use it?

I always have a round chambered. It is proper trigger disciple and training that keep it a safe and well-advised practice.
