The most basic test SemiAnalysis applies to a GPU cluster health check is whether it could possibly work on paper. Several could not. "We've been through a few of these clusters where there's no way it could possibly work. These are health checks so bad they're worse than no... show more

Watch Now:

Still smell like they just got out of diapers😖

GPU cluster health checks that fail on paper — including circular "node must be healthy to run the check that returns it to the fleet" loops on HyperPod Slurm — are an L2/L3 readiness choke, not a GPU shortage story. Shipping L1 accelerators is the easy half; the scarce gate is whether interconnect, scheduler, and node-state plumbing can pass a first-principles health path before customer handoff. Clusters that actively interfere with jobs turn CapEx into stranded FLOPS until that operational valve clears.

A health check that needs the node to be healthy before it can run is the cloud version of a job posting that requires five years of experience for an entry-level role, and at GPU prices it's not a funny bug, since every node stuck in that loop is a machine billing by the hour while doing nothing, which makes cluster reliability the most underrated line item in the cost of training.

This is why I wouldn’t judge an AI cluster by GPU count alone. If a node can’t rejoin because the health check won’t run, I’d want to know how often jobs actually finish and how quickly nodes recover.

A health check that needs the node back in the fleet so it can bring the node back into the fleet. Beautiful little deadlock. Did AWS fix it after you flagged it?

These clowns know nothing about GPU cluster.

this is giving 'he said he was 6 feet' energy
